Once in a while, I'll see a picture of Aaliyah, and think, "man, she was hot. It's too bad she died." That's pretty much the extent of it, though. Sorry if it's not the response you were looking for, but if it's any consolation, I care even less about John Lennon. I stroll past that Strawberry Fields memorial thingie all the time, and it's a constant source of amusement/irritation to always have to walk around these touristy types solemnly standing around like he was Gandhi or something.

I forgot that she even existed. When I saw this thread, I had to remember who she was, what she did, and that she had, in fact, died. She could still be alive making music and I would feel exactly the same, except I would have had to take one less step in my thought process in remembering her death.

The original poster asked if I felt any empathy. I can't empathise with her and her death until I too am dead, and while there are some thigns I would martyr myself for, Aaliyah is NOT one of them!

Not to be cold or uncaring, but:
I had never heard of her when the accident happened, so I guess the answer would be 'no'. Haven't thought about it once since I heard about it.
Sure, it's too bad someone died, but the reality is a lot of people die every day. It's the great equalizer.

"Q: Moving back to the movie soundtrack. I note that you co-executively produced the CD. That is a major accomplishment for a 21 year-old. But given that you have two albums under you belt why hadn't you done so before?
A: It was actually the first time that we all thought about giving me that credit! Actually, I have creative control on every part of my career - I may not pen the song or produce the track, but when it comes to putting a song together I'm very involved and it was no different for this project. My uncle (Barry Hankerson) is head of the label (Blackground Entertainment) the soundtrack is released on and he realised while working with me on it how hands-on I was. I mean, I was calling them every day saying, 'we need this person on the soundtrack, we need this one, I don't like that one'. When I saw the words on the back of the album I was like 'cool. Executive producer!' I guess I did deserve that.
Q: So, with two albums and a film behind you, where does a 21 year-old go from here?
A: There are so many things I want to do as a music artist and as an actress. I'm very versatile in both areas so I think it's very important for me to convey that! I'd love to do a comedy, another action movie and a drama so that people see me as an entertainer! I'm a dancer as well and on the next album I have a lot of ideas as far as dance goes! "
its interview with Aaliyah.it is proof that she was creative and that she wasn't dead element in music industry

Why do I get the feeling that this guy is assembling his own "Aaliyah" in his basement from dismembered bodies of hookers and the homeless?

I really didn't pay any attention to her when she was around, and now I'm glad I didn't. Another spoiled, marginally talented singer, that thinks being able to carry a tune makes you "creative". Does the world really need two Madonnas?

Seriously, I didn't know dead celebrities could have stalkers. And what a really random choice for someone to be obsessed over. I will say her death did get majorly overshadowed by 9-11 happening just two weeks later, which is unfortunate but what can you do?
