The new is album is fantastic. I have listened to it several times through and have never felt the need to skip a track. The song writing is probably the best they've done and they have added some new sounds to mix. If you have even mildly enjoyed them in the past you should check it out.

Yes, a friend of mine loves the album too, I'll definately be picking it up, I heard there is a deluxe edition with a dvd, or the first pressing includes one.

from pitchfork:

Belle and Sebastian to Tour With New Pornographers
Tyler Grisham reports:
The Super Friends of indie pop are joining together to take on the States: Matador Records has announced that the New Pornographers will support Belle and Sebastian on their North American tour in support of their forthcoming album, The Life Pursuit, due February 7. They'd better be playing some biiiig stages.

The Glaswegian faves will swing into Canada for two dates, pick up their maple-leaf counterparts, and embark on a month-long trek across the States. The New Pornos drop off the tour for two dates: the Matador SXSW showcase (also featuring Mogwai, Cat Power, and Pretty Girls Make Graves--better get in line now) and a random show in Vancouver. Wait, aren't Carl Newman and co. from Vancouver? What gives?

Flip up your white collar, boy:

02-25 Toronto, Ontario - The Docks
02-26 Montreal, Quebec - Metropolis
02-27 Boston, MA - Avalon
02-28 Boston, MA - Avalon
03-02 New York, NY - Nokia Theatre
03-03 New York, NY - Nokia Theatre
03-04 Philadelphia, PA - Electric Factory
03-05 Washington DC - 9:30 Club
03-06 Washington DC - 9:30 Club
03-08 Nashville, TN - Ryman Auditorium
03-09 Louisville, KY - Brown Theatre
03-10 Chicago, IL - Riviera
03-11 Milwaukee, WI - Riverside Theatre
03-12 Minneapolis, MN - Orpheum Theatre
03-14 Dallas, TX - Granada Theatre
03-15 Austin, TX - Stubb's (SXSW)*#
03-18 Los Angeles, CA - Wiltern
03-19 Los Angeles, CA - Wiltern
03-21 San Francisco, CA - Concourse @ SF Design Center
03-23 Portland, OR - Roseland
03-24 Vancouver, British Columbia - Commodore Ballroom #
03-25 Seattle, WA - Paramount Theatre

Probably their most accessible album. Has 2 or 3 songs that would be huge hits if this was 1983. Unfortunately there's no room for smart pop music on the radio these days. At least in the US.

There's something that's just so very Belle & Sebastian about that.

I should add that if anyone here hasn't bought the iTunes live release of If You're Feeling Sinister, it's well worth it. It adds a great deal to the songs and it's a great concert.

Yes, which I know gives some people pause... but as an extra push, all the proceeds (or profits, I can't remember) go to charity.

BTW: The first single, "Funny Little Frog" is released next week. No American release, unfortunately (what is up with Rough Trade US? They're not releasing the album in the US, and now this?), but you can get all three formats (different songs on each one, grrrr) for only £5 from here:

http://www.recordstore.co.uk/home.js...sgjiTpN3IEb-13

I haven't found any better deals. Works out to about $14 shipped.

7" Single

Side A

1. Funny Little Frog

Side B

1. 8th Station of the Cross Kebab House

CD Single

1. Funny Little Frog
2. Meat & Potatoes
3. I Took A Long Hard Look

DVD Single

1. Funny Little Frog (Video)
2. Lazy Line Painter Jane (Live in Glasgow Botanic Gardens)

That CD cover is awesome. Just because it makes you stare at it and wonder "what's up with these people?" They definitely went to the Smiths school of album covers.

I could be wrong but different majors own the different Rough Trades. I would think Matador will eventually release the single. I think Belle and Sebastian chose to go back to Matador even though I think they should have moved to Capitol like the Decemberists.

They won't be releasing the single. This is from their official message board. They may buy some of them to resell, but that's about it.

I just ordered all three formats from ebay for about $16, wish I saw the posting for it for about $14, oh well.

Sometimes I wonder if you realize if a world of piracy even exists.
