It's so hard to recommend this when it's only available as a Region 2 Pal DVD, but the Super Furry Animals' Rings Around the World is my favourite music video the 5.1 DTS sound is awe inspiring. Have on order Bjork's latest on DVD-Audio cant wait to hear that.

Don't have a DVD-A player, but as for Music DVD's Dave Matthews Band Listener Supported and Pearl Jam Touring Band 2000 are great ones if you like either band. Nine Inch Nails has a couple coming out, ones a re-release of Closure that came out on VHS a few years ago, and the other one is from last years Fragility tour. DMB also has a DVD with all their videos, and another concert dvd from a concert last summer coming out sometime.

Big Phat Band: Swinging for the fence is the best DVD-A in my DVD-A collection. You'll like it.

A couple of really nice DVD-A's:

Sting - Brand New Day
Eric Clapton/B.B King - Riding With The King

Both present surround sound very tastefully.
I personally enjoy the music alot too.

I can second the Eric Clapton/BB King recommendation. This one sounds great and it's a must have if you're into blues!

Any DVD-Audio fans here on the forum?

I have had this format since August/September of 2002 and don't really have a bunch of discs. The ones I have gotten are top-notch so far.

I wanted to see what albums other people have and what their impressions of them are. I haven't found a good place to get reviews of these yet. Anyone have any good sites? These discs can be tough to locate on many retailer websites and once you do find one, they don't have hardly any reviews or opinions.

I own:

Eagles: Hotel California
Disturbed: Believe
Queen: A Night at the Opera & The Game ($14.99 this week at Best Buy!)
Stone Temple Pilots: Core

Not many but I am on the fence on some others. Any opinions of these are welcome!

Metallica: Metallica; Donald Fagan: The Nightfly; Elvis Presley: #1 Hits; Fleetwood Mac: Rumours; The Doors: L.A. Woman; Steely Dan: Two Against Nature

So what does your cllection consist of? Thanks.

I have Disturbed, Eagles, Linkin Park (Reanimation) and Metallica.
If you like Metallica, then the disc shouldn't disappoint, it sounds very nice.

Thanks for the response. I hear that the Linkin Park disc will blow your speakers up with bass! I just wish it was their first album instead of the remixes.

I also have another question for you guys out there. Has anyone tried to record a DVD-Audio? The reason I ask is that some of these discs may be my only copy and I would like to have one to listen to in the car. I can make an analog stereo recording from them but that is it. Anyone tried it or knows a better way?

The Coors - In Blue is an amazigly engineered DVD-Audio disc. Great album too.

Natalie Merchant - Tigerlily is very good.

Bjork - Vespertine is not only an incredible album but a great DVD-Audio as well.

Buena Vista Social Club- excellent

Dishwalla-"Opaline"-excellent

The Police-"Every breath you take (DTS CD)- very good

I have been very selective in actually buying more DVD-A discs, mostly because the majority of material available I'm not completely gung-ho over. Hopefully soon more music that fits my tastes will become available in 5.1 . I would love to see more classic metal albums (Maiden) remixed in DVD-A - I read that Megadeth's "Peace Sells" will be released in DTS 5.1 in the next month or two. Even more recent releases like TOOL, NIN, Smashing Pumpkins would be great.

Man I would give about anything to hear great mixes from all of those groups.

Question: Does anyone know if using the 6ch output on my player as opposed to my optical will make a world of difference separation/quality wise? Right now I have just the optical, and can't listen to the MLP track of the DVDa discs. I know this is supposedly the highest quality one, but was just looking for opinions.

If the album is mixed well, then Heavens, yes. There are some DVD-As out there that just sound like garbage, and the MLP track doesn't help.

The aformentioned Opaline is a good example of a disc that sounds great. The stereo MLP track is especially good. The acoustic guitar in the intro to "Angels or Devils" sounds like it's in the room with you.

Thanks, I should try it out then. I have enough cable but haven't gotten around to it. It'll be tricky once I get an SACD player too to have both 6 ch inputs connected to my one receiver hehe.

I've been trying to get into this format, but haven't had much luck finding anything I want (at the price point) in B&M's. Browsing DVD Audio is even harder online it seems because most etailers lump DVD Audio discs into Conert/Musical DVDs. If anyone has a link to etailers w/ DVD Audio specific sections, I'd appreciate it.

Benedict, thanks for posting the review link. I figured DVD Talk had some info around here, but couldn't find it.
