Re: Tell me about Death Cab for Cutie
"Death Cab for Cutie" is a song by The Bonzo Dog Band. The song was written by Neil Innes and Vivian Stanshall and was released on their first album Gorilla. The song is done in a mocking style of Elvis Presley. The Dog Band can be seen performing the song in The Magical Mystery Tour movie.
That's a pretty good start there.

Re: Tell me about Death Cab for Cutie
I think Plans is probably their most accessible album to date, followed closely by Transatlanticism, so those are probably the best place to start. Personally, I prefer Transatlanticism, but you can't go wrong with either of them. I didn't really care for Narrow Stairs and what I've heard from their older albums never really held my attention (a lot of my friends think I'm crazy because of that).

I think Narrow Stairs and the recent Open Door EP are just as good as Plans and Transatlanticism... well worth checking out.

Here are some good songs to listen to from them IMHO
Marching Bands of Manhattan
The Year
I Was Kaleidoscope
Title and Registration
Your Bruise (my favorite!!)
Company Calls
They are a solid band. I like thei earlier work (pre-Plans) more than their recent efforts although Plans is a very good album.

No love for The Photo Album?
Transatlanticism, Photo, Plans, Narrow Stairs
One of their EPs has an awesome cover of All is Full of Love

Death Cab for Cutie - Codes and Keys out May 31, 2011
I couldn't help but notice there was nothing here for Death Cab For Cutie's upcoming album Codes and Keys. I wasn't that excited about it either, until I heard the new song they are streaming on their website. It's undeniably catchy.
You can read more and stream the track on my music and film blog (and comment there too!):

Can't wait for the record - really like the single and am sure this will be a good one. Going to see them in May, small venue, should be great.

Love the band.....but a little less self loathing in the lyrics would be a welcome change.

It took me a while but I eventually warmed up to Narrow Stairs and now like it quite a bit. Single is pretty good. Looking forward to the new album.

Although I don't care for this band, albeit I can tolerate them, my wife loves them. Glad that the news got posted so I can share with the wife, I'm sure she'll be loving it.

The album leaked...very strong. Death Cab just gets better and better.
There is only one track I don't care for (Unobstructed Views). Codes and Keys, You Are A Tourist, and Underneath The Sycamore are my favorite songs.
Narrow Stairs was a great album and I'd say there's no drop in quality here.

1. "Home Is a Fire"
2. "Codes and Keys"
3. "Some Boys"
4. "Doors Unlocked and Open"
5. "You Are a Tourist"
6. "Unobstructed Views"
7. "Monday Morning"
8. "Portable Television"
9. "Underneath the Sycamore"
10. "St. Peter's Cathedral"
11. "Stay Young, Go Dancing"

Really like the album, a bit more cheerful than usual for Death Cab
Saw them live last week and it was fantastic - if you get a chance, you should definitely check them out.

that's what was stated in today's story on NPR this afternoon, just the few bits of snippets of the new album, sound great IMO.
