I agree with you 100%! Why rip off the composers of whose music you love?

If the artists I loved put out a ton of live albums (as much as Pearl Jam does; too bad I don't like Pearl Jam), I'd buy them all, but they don't, so I download or trade for the live shows.

I will download a song or two to check out a band that I've read about. I'll buy the disk if I like it. Napster made me buy a TON of CDs that I normally would not have (and also turned me off from buying a few crappy CDs).

Yeah let me tell ya....that Shonga84, he's a real menace. And that sweetthang1421, I heard she's really not so sweet if ya know what I mean.

With Al Queda still out there and all the murdurers, rapists, drug dealers, and Wall Street embezllers on the loose in the streets of this great nation of ours, I really am glad the RIAA is cracking down on the "real" crime in this country.

Well, my opinion on this whole thing is that people are saying "Support the artists". Well, that's not what you are doing. As everybody knows, all you are doing is making the record label big wigs have to loosen their belts. So they release singles, but they price those at like $4-5. Which is around 1/3 of the price of the album. So you get 1/17th of the album, and pay 1/3 of the price. And on a related topic, (I don't know if anyone has already mentioned this, but I will either way) what about buying used CDs, no, I'm not saying you should, I'm saying people should be arrested for it!!!!! I mean, if I buy a CD from my friend, we both get the same enjoyment out of listening to it, however, the record company only gets the price of one. So what is the difference if I buy a used CD, or download it?

I am curious what defines large users. I would guess a million would do it.

I doubt they will want any definition out there for what would be considered "Large". Simple as this when the RIAA states who they are after, those who fall under the different group will feel safe to continue. it's a scare tactic, I'm surprised they stated they don't want small timers since this is part of the scare tactic.

A million mp3s? A million is a large number. Let's think about this.

A million mp3s would be about three million minutes of music, give or take a bit. Each minute of music, assuming a decent bitrate, takes about one meg. So that's three million megs of storage space. Or, 3000 gigabites. Three terabytes. Of MP3s. For one person. Shared.

No way. I used to share about 8,000 files on Napster, and I very rarely saw anyone trading more.

Was just about to say that. 1 million mp3s is probably 80-90k albums. Thats more than most music stores would have (just CDs yes they stock 100 of the new Nelly or whatever the crap).

I would assume a large file trader is in the 5-10k song range. 10k may be a good cut off point in fact. Glad I'm not sharing

All I have to say is, don't beleave a word those bastards spew! They are just trying to save face, and look good in the eyes of the public. For all we know 100 files could be considered "Large". This is nothing more than propiganda from the RIAA.

i have about 34gb of mp3s. all of them are encoded by me at 192kpbs. it comes out to be like 6000 mp3s i think. so 1 million seems crazy to me.

oh yeah I hate all P2P programs.

Those articles say nothing about the specific number, its certainly not a million. That number is just silly and pulled out of someone's ***.
