Haircut 100's "Love + 1" is probably the one-hit wonder the closest to my heart.
But then I'm a one-hit wonder whore. As an 80's music lover, you kind of have to be. |
A Ha - Take On Me
|
1) Hot Child In The City by Nick Guilder, #1 in 1978
2) She's Like The Wind by Patrick Swayze, #3 in 1988 3) To Be With You by Mr. Big, #1 in 1992 |

I'll agree with the Vapors -- as much as I love their best-known song, I'd say "Spring Collection" and "News at 10" are even better.

They've got 4 studio albums, are currently touring, and are releasing a new disc in a couple of months after the members did some solo-record-soul-cleansing. Anyway, their single "Dim" placed at #24 on Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart, and their sophomore album "American highway Flower" charted, with the single "All I Am" staying on the charts for 8 weeks. Nothing they ever did was #1, but they're definately not a one-trick pony. |
Modern English: Melt with You
Motels: Only the Lonely (although they did hit with "Suddenly Last Summer" as well, that's more of a remake of this song than something else). |
I love a lot of the songs in this thread. I would add Tub Thumping by chumbawumba. It's catchy as all hell.

Simple Minds - Don't You (Forget About Me)
The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony It's too bad that The Verve was a one-hit wonder. They didn't deserve to be. |
"Hey there, lonely girl"-Eddie Holman
"Feels so good"-Chuck Mangione "Major Tom"-Peter Schilling "Just got paid"-Johnny Kemp "Someone like you"-Bang Tango "Apple Pie"-White Trash "D'ur D'ur Bebe"-Jordy "My Boo"-Quad City DJs |

Most of the ones I was going to name have already been named (Relax, Black Velvet, One Night in Bangkok, Rock Me Amadeus I Touch Myself).
Does the Knack count as a one-hit wonder? They were supposed to be the next Beatles, but I've never heard anything from them besides My Sharona. Other good ones: Toni Basil -- Mickey Michael Penn -- No Myth T'Pau -- Heart and Soul (though they were big in the UK, I think) Georgia Satelites -- Keep Your Hands to Yourself EMF -- Unbelievable (Another band that was big in the UK, but only hit once in the US) Probably my favorite, though, is Laid, by James. |
How about Tony Burrows? He is unique for being a One Hit Wonder FIVE TIMES.
Edison Lighthouse- "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)" The Pipkins- "Gimmie Dat Ding" First Class- "Beach Baby" White Plains- "My Baby Loves Lovin'" Brotherhood of Man- "United We Stand" Flowerpot Men- "In a Moment of Madness". |
Electric Ave. -- Eddie Grant
Walking on Sunshine -- Katrina and the waves Life in a Northern Town -- Dream Academy Bust a Move -- Young MC Always Something There to Remind Me -- Naked Eyes (i think) You gotta love 80's 1 hit wonders! |

Originally posted by TeeSeeJay This breaks my heart. The best band of the 90s remembered for THAT song. Jeez. Luckily, they don't fit the mold of a 1-hit band. Nothing they ever did was #1, but they're definately not a one-trick pony. Tripping Daisy - "Blown Away", even though "I Got A Girl" was the more popular of the two. You have to give A-ha credit for a band to stick around eight years and still write great (if not better) songs than the one's on their debut album. _____________________ |
