Not really "one-hit wonders" but this Rhino box set is somewhat along the same line

how 'bout Dee-lite's 'Groove is in the Heart'-- always magnetically propels me onto the dancefloor.

How 'bout...

"Turn Up The Radio" - Autograph
"Modern Day Delilah" - Van Stephenson
"On The Loose" - Saga

Caoimhin 07-10-02 09:57 AM

By far, these are my two favorites:

"Wouldn't It Be Good" - Nik Kershaw
"Life In A Northern Town" - Dream Academy

Others:

"C'est La Vie" - Robbie Nevil
"Mary's Prayer" - Danny Wilson
"Catch Me (I'm Falling)" - Pretty Poison
"Major Tom (Coming Home)" - Peter Schilling
"Tender Love" - Force MD's
"Breakout" - Swing Out Sister
"Mexican Radio" - Wall of Voodoo

I have a million. Somehow, I always dig the songs that come from one-hit wonders.

Edited to add a couple more...

Toad 07-10-02 10:31 AM

Maybe I'm wrong on these:

10cc - "I'm Not in Love"
Madness - "Our House"
Endland Dan - "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight"

My favorites, though, are "Take on Me" by A-ha, and "Come on Eileen" by Dexy's Midnight Riders (or whatever). ;)

Great one, rkndkn! I loved their follow-up Megaforce just as well though.

I actually have their first two albums on LP! (Not sure if they had any more after that.)

[Silly question]

It is often disconcerting reading this kind of thread because bands that you know did well in the UK and in continental Europe are deemed to be one hit wonders across the Atlantic!

What constitutes a "hit" Stateside; top 30; 40; 50; 75; 100?

I know Toad posted a caveat but I thought I'd mention that 10cc had several top 100 singles in the U.S. They also had another top 10 with "Things We do for Love".

I don't know if this show aired on UK terrestrial television....

Superdrag. They had a minor hit in the mid-90s with "Sucked Out". However, they just keep on improving. Their new disc - Last Call for Vitriol - is excellent.

Alien Redrum 07-14-02 11:32 PM

It's tough, but I've narrowed it down to 2

A toss up...

I Touch Myself - Divinyls
Black Velvet - Alynna Myles

Zodo 07-15-02 09:45 AM

I would have to say that "faith no more" is not a one hit wonder band.

Pointyskull 07-16-02 02:26 PM

A lot of great ones have already been mentioned, but I haven't heard anyone suggest:

The Buoys - Timothy
a great pop song about cannabalism!

Giles 07-16-02 02:33 PM

Dada - "Dizz Knee Land"

Drexl 07-17-02 09:09 AM

What are you asking? The way I see it, this question could be interpreted in two ways:

1. An artist that would be considered a one-hit wonder, but that you like the music of, including other songs besides the one hit? For example, as I have said a few times on this forum, I like Fountains of Wayne. Well, even I can admit that they haven't really had any other hits besides "Radiation Vibe" in 1996. My opinion on them, however, is based on many other songs from them. So, in that case, I would have to say that they would be my favorite one-hit wonder.

2. Your favorite song which was an artist's only real hit? Most of you are listing songs, so I guess this is what you mean. In that case, I'm not sure. Off the top of my head, I would say "Lullaby" by Shawn Mullins.

BTW, I don't see anything wrong with calling someone a one-hit wonder. It's just a label anyway, and all it means is that the artist has only had one song that connected with enough of the mainstream to be considered a "hit." Looking over today's charts, I don't know if I would even want my favorite artists to have that kind of company.

Timothy is a mule (I didn't know this until somebody named Tim told me) :)

Actually, the follow up wasn't Megaforce, their 2nd album was, which was even better than the first one with this minor hit.

He had another song called "Incomplete" that went to number one. Plus he was in a little group that has sold millions of cds called "Dru Hill". Perhaps you've heard of them.

Sorry for the :crap:

One of my favorites would be Skee-Lo - I wish
