WinMX 3.3 problems???

I just downloaded the latest version of WinMX, and I'm not sure if there is something wrong with my computer or if it is the program.

Basically, whenever I try to download something it will come up in red - like it was aborted or disconnected - but it won't make itself incomplete. Secondly, whenever someone else tries to download something from me, it always times out.

Is anyone else having this or any other problem?

As this is primarily a music rather than a software forum, lets keep that kind of thing in the appropriate sticky thread, please.

Looking for mp3 organizing software

I have about 3000 mp3's and want to sort them into folders by genre. I

Is there a program that lets me see all of my mp3's with their genres so I can grab them quickly and dump 'em in the right folder? (i.e. drag and drop)

TIA

Have you been selecting the proper genre in the id3 tags of each file?

I'm not sure what you mean

In many cases, the tags are incorrect. e.g. Blink 182 as "classic rock" instead of "punk". I used MP3 Re-tagger to clean up my files.

I now need to move these re-tagged files into genre folders.

How can I do this? I need a Windows explorer type proggie that shows the genre.

Gosh, it is getting pretty tough to get mp3s nowadays. I have not downloaded mp3s in a couple of weeks, but kazaalite really seems like the best thing to try. http://www.kazaalite.nl/downloads.htm

Gosh, if this is against the rules then I'm sorry!

Note: I've posted this link in the PC forum many times and haven't had any problems.

If you want to do the work, then tag them all correctly, then use mp3tag studio from www.magnusbrading.com. Once you are done it will be worth the effort. In the output file name box you want to use the command (Genre)/(Artist) - (Title).mp3

That way you will have a folder called classic rock, and the songs in the folder will be named by Artist - title.

An easier, but at times far more frustrating way to do it is to use Moodlogic at www.moodlogic.com. You'll just have to use them to make all your playlists and hope their info is mostly correct.
__________
Some of the "tags" above seemed to be messing with the vB software so I changed a few of the brackets to try to sort things out. [Benedict]

I can't believe those who have kazaa on their PCs actually allow giant computers to take over their PCs right before their noses. I mean, you have no privacy and everything you do, what you write, is so being monitored cause your PC is part of their network!

sometimes its nice to download the contents of a CD to see if its worth spending the money on...if you dont like it, delete it...if you do you can buy it and feel good about your purchase.

What is the best file sharing service?

I just finally got broadband again and used to use Napster. Now I am using WinMX, but it is difficult to find good connections to share files. Does anyone have other suggestions?

Kazaa Lite and Winmx....Winmx for 192's. Kazaa Lite for its speed. But the spotty amount of higher quality mp3's on Kazaa Lite (at least what I search for, sometimes) take it a notch below Winmx in my opinion.

So, is downloading music still stealing?

Many posters here have, in the past, expressed sympathy with the claim by record companies that downloaded files steals food from the mouths of their children, or whatever.

Here is a well-researched, cohesive argument which describes how the MP3 phenomenon is the direct result of the big-money stranglehold on radio and music television, as well as how the internet can provide new opportunities for artists and labels if they are willing to adapt.

It also directly attacks the characterization of P2P file sharing as "piracy," as well as the commonly used analogy between downloading and shoplifting.

Here's the link. Read the article.

If you are referring to me, I certainly don't recall expressing sympathy. I think the RIAA is very much laying in a bed they made for themselves.

However, it still never ceases to amaze me how people can honestly even try and rationalize away the fact that downloading movies and music you do not own is theft.

Re: One-&-only [legal] filesharing [inc. mp3 software] advice/discussion thread [Part

Chucky's Animation Theme from Child's Play would be wonderful, I need it to complete my horror music collection.
I got Halloween, Friday the 13th, and even Nightmare on Elm street... Tales from the Crypt and even Beetlejuice (?) in there too, but I am in the need of the good Chucky.
