But they ARE easy to avoid - sort of.....don't shop in those bland CD shops....go somewhere they play decent music. Forget the posters hanging up....don't look at them. Video your favourite shows and skip the crap acts...that'll wipe out 85% of the show.
Don;t watch that show Fox are promoting. Ads in magazines?? For farck's sake...turn the page!!!!!!!!
**Sigh**
Last word on this, promise. But....
A) I don't have but bland CD shops in my area
B) Go somewhere they play decent music !?
C) Oh I forget the posters I see, I just don't think Billboard size pictures of these puppets are necessary. Don't look at them? Again, I don't. But it's kind of hard not to notice
D) I do video tape certain shows on both MTV2 and VH-1. I fast forward A LOT
E) I'm not going to watch the Fox show (you missed my point)
F) Turn the page with the ads? Um, I do (again, missed my point).
Telling someone to overlook or avoid all of this is like telling someone in L.A. if they don't like the smog, then don't breathe.

OK. Try this. Don't let it get to you. You can't change what people buy or how heavily it is advertised. Accept that you (and I) know that there is better stuff out there and let the teeny boppers waste their cash on that crap. They don't care what we think generally, so try to let the whole thing wash over you. It is much easier.

Terry, believe me, this doesn't get to me. I know I have no control over consumers. Or even advertisers. And I'm not consumed or obsessed by any of this. I don't get behind the wheel with any boy band rage. I'm merely giving my opinion and thoughts on the subject in this discussion group. But thanks for the advice. And take it easy......

Do what I do.
Point at the teenyboppers buying all the Evil Bad teenybopper CDs and LAUGH.
When you see the likes of Justin Timberlake on TV, pity him because his career is over in another year or two.
When you see that Lance guy sitting there with his vapid deer-caught-in-the-headlights expression attempting to go through training so he can travel through space (between his ears), think of Will Sasso doing his Lance impersonation. And laugh.
When you see Britney Spears and her boobs bouncing all over the place, pity her, because her career is over in another year or two. Plus her boobs will sag to her knees by her mid 40s.
Since you have nothing but Camelot Music stores around you, try shopping for music at cdnow, cdbaby (indy store), cdeurope and amazon. S'what I do when I can't get to Tower or Street Light.
Another suggestion: move to a college town where you will have lots of college-grade music stores. And a possible better taste in music for the general population.

No worries...believe me I share your frustration, but I have learnt to enjoy the fact that what I listen to is generally not well known (except to a few others) and this makes me feel a bit specail actually. I wonder if I would bag some of the acts I currently love if I was bombarded by them to the same degree??

No worries!? Are you Australian? I love Australia (and Australians)!! But I digress.
Yeah, I always root for the underdog. Kind of an ironic twist
to what I'm bitching about here. My all-time favorite band
(Depeche Mode) were also majorly slagged off as a pretty
boy band the first several years in their career. It's just
been recently (within the last few years) that they've finally
started getting respect from the music critics and their
peers. I've lost count on all the DM tribute and cover albums.
I agree that their music wasn't their strongest the first
few years. Now? Their albums aren't selling nearly as
much as their work circa 87-92 (another reason why it
pisses me off that today's boy bands are doing so well).
Because I think their music is stronger than ever!
Yet, DM manage to still sell out arenas and stadiums (!??)
Like one magazine called them recently, they really
are indeed the biggest cult band at the moment.

I too like Depech Mode through all their years...
The answer to the boy bad problem is to focus on what we DO like, and they kinda go away.
