List is just crap (can I say that?) lol. Where are Van Halen and oh say Journey and a bunch of other bands that sold more albums and had more top 10 hits than half of the bands on this list?

I love the Beastie Boys to death, but there's no way in hell they belong on the top 10 list. Their last CD sucked ass, the one before that wasn't great either.

No rap band should be on there, since they didn't come up with their own original background music! The Monkees have more a right on there than any rap act.

This list is totally useless. It only makes people start talking about how great "their" bands are and how every other band does not deserve to be on this list. It is entertaining to read these lists of greatest bands but they don't mean anything. The greatest bands are the ones we individually love and that's that.

Yes, because the Monkees certanly played all the music on their albums.

If Nirvana is #5 (was the writer born in 1990 or something?), where are The Pixies? Kurt Cobain himself said if it weren't for The Pixies, Nirvana wouldn't have existed.

I haven't read this thread at all but all of your guys' arguements are stupid and no one cares what you think should be and what shouldn't be on there. Make your own list and show it to everyone.

Perhaps you are in need of a ladder to come down off of that high horse?

sigh...

Yeah, Pink Floyd at #49 is a travesty of justice. They shouldn't even be in the top 1,000 best band list!!!

42. Huster Du
And I sure hope this is a typo the original poster made. If not, Spin should cease to exist.

Not a bad list, I don't agree with the order, but most of my favorites are represented.

About the bands on the list, I quickly lost interest after seeing the Beatles at #1 so I didn't read the rest. Beatles blow, Sublime should be #1 all the way!!

That's a great way to troll a thread and risk getting yourself suspended.

So please think before you post: if/when I have to clear up arguments that go bad because of posts akin to yours, chances are the perpetrator will be subject to administrative action. If you disagree email Geoff; don't reply here.

I did read the thread, though. I was just joking. Here I will add one of these things at the end to please the masses. (even though I don't like using these things). I followed it up with saying the Beatles sucked and that Sublime is the greatest band of all time. Can no one read any sarcasm in that without one of these ? Seriously. Is there anyone that is offended by my statement by that? If people are really going to be pissed about something like that, you should ban me and I will just waste my time elsewhere where I can make retarded jokes like that.

Sure I can. When you said Cat Power's new album was a major disapointment in another thread, I caught on to your sarcasm right away. You're a very funny person.

So, if I said that They Might Be Giants should be included on this list and Radiohead stricken from it, can you tell if I'm being sarcasic or not?

The Chili Peppers definitely belong on the list.

As for Kiss, if you have to argue for or against them, you're missing the point. Spinal Tap in real life.

Lists are for debate, so excuse me while I put on my asbestos suit.
Who the heck is Husker Du?

Nirvana was probably the best if not one of the top 3 bands of the 90's.
