Re: 2025 Year-End Critics and Guild Awards Thread
I assume only English-language films are eligible? No likely Oscar nominees like Stellan Skarsgard, Renate Reinsve or Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas from Sentimental Value or Wagner Moura from The Secret Agent among the nominees.
I doubt either of those Sinners supporting actors (though Mosaku might) or Plemons in Lead Actor will get a nod at the Oscars.
Edit : There is ZERO chance that Kate Hudson gets an Oscar nomination for Song Sung Blue. That one is a real stunner.
Edit 2 : No, Foreign language films while not favored by SAG are in fact apparently eligible.
From NYT :
Also : One Battle set a record for most SAG/Actor nominations with 7 (Leo, Infiniti, Penn, Del Toro, Taylor, Cast & Stunt Ensemble)

From NYT :
The Screen Actors Guild tends to favor English-language performances, but even so, few pundits were predicting a complete shutout for the Norwegian film “Sentimental Value,” which stars Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgard and Elle Fanning. The Brazilian actor Wagner Moura (“The Secret Agent”), a Golden Globe nominee, was also snubbed.

The Golden Globes ceremony is this weekend. Since it's on CBS this year, they are throwing together a tribute to DHS and ICE for the show.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards, now The Actor Awards, are a function of an American trade union. They can give an award to whoever they want, but no reason really to expect they would give an award to someone who was not a SAG member.

All you have to do is go back to last year when "I'm Still here nabbed BP and Best Actress(Fernanda Torres) while being shut out by the American Guild Precursors. Other recent examples of actresses from foreign language films to miss Sag and get Oscar nominated from this decade alone have been Sandra Huller and Penlelope Cruz.

I would love for a dog to be nominated for one of the Oscar acting awards. Although if the dog won, we would have to endure a political rant acceptance speech about how cats are ruining the country.

Re: 2025 Year-End Critics and Guild Awards Thread
You're missing male actor in a drama.

I mean, the dog isn't giving a performance, it's a prop. You might as well nominate the jet Tom Cruise flew in Top Gun: Maverick.
