Maybe he is past it but i hope Conan returns with a talk show.

If Kimmel retired or FOX ever decided to get into the late night game hire Conan.

Re: 2025 Academy Awards

I love the choice of Conan, but truthfully, it's because I'm getting old, and I need to believe things from the 90s are still cool.

I also like to imagine how funny it would be if Jay Leno "out foxes" Conan again and winds up hosting the show.

Interested because of Conan. I’ll at least watch his monologue and other highlights.

1) Conan is in his 60s. No network is hiring him to begin a run hosting their flagship late night show.

2) He did that kind of talk show for 25 years; he'll never do another one again.

It looks like he's having enough fun with his podcasts and episodes of Conan O'Brien Must Go once in awhile. I'm good with that.

Re: 2025 Academy Awards

I’m okay with Conan not having another regular tv show. He left his TBS show on his own terms plus he was in the talk show game quite a while. I still really enjoy him but it seems like he’s at a stage where he’s just doing what he wants. The podcast gives him even more freedom and he can still do other things on occasion.

It should make us all feel old. Most of us here were right in that young, college age demographic that watched Conan when he first started in Late Night. Now he’s the old grizzled veteran and we’re…not college aged anymore.

Re: 2025 Academy Awards

I remember seeing people like Bob Hope and Johnny Carson on the Oscars, and thinking "Look at these old farts, what lame-o's". I love that I've lived long enough to see Conan O'Brien step into that role for the latest generation.

Re: 2025 Academy Awards

Yeah, it's so weird. We're almost at a point where the "Brat Pack" are going to be the elder statesmen of Hollywood, like how Henry Fonda and Bette Davis were forty years ago.

Movies like Fast Times at Ridgemont High and The Breakfast Club are now as old as movies from the 1940s were when they came out in the 1980s.

Gone with the Wind came out in 1939. Fast Times at Ridgemont High came out in 1982, forty-three years later. Next year, Fast Times at Ridgemont High will be as old as Gone with the Wind was when FTaRH came out.

It's mind-boggling. GwtW seemed absolutely ancient when I was a kid. Does FTaRH seem that ancient to young people today? Or can they still relate to it and find the humor in it?

Fast Times felt ancient to me, when I first saw it in the mid90s.
By the way, in Germany Fast Times is called "I think, I'm standing in the forest"

UPDATE ( Dec. 20): Robbie Williams’ song “Forbidden Road” was removed from the 2025 Oscar shortlist for best original song on the grounds that song incorporates material from an existing song that was not written for the film in which it appears, Better Man (Paramount Pictures). Williams co-wrote the song with Freddy Wexler and Sacha Skarbek.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences will not replace the song on the shortlist. Members of the music branch will choose the five nominees from a shortlist of 14 songs, rather than the customary 15.

I'd love to see Universal Language make the cut for Best International Feature, just for creating the second best cinematic reinvention of Winnipeg.

No Original Song performance this year. That's kind of a bummer, even though there weren't any real strong songs on the short list.

Lame. I was looking forward to this year's Diane Warren song no one's ever heard of.

That is crazy especially if a song from Wicked gets nominated and a lot of people would want to see that.

It wil be a crime if this Oscar baiting song does not get nominated

I'd rather watch unoriginal songs from Wicked or some of great movie songs from the past than anything that would get nominated this year.

Sebastian Stan seems like the surprise to me, great for him. And the love for The Substance, gotta see it!

dex14 01-23-25 07:57 AM

Re: 2025 Academy Awards

I would've preferred Stan had been nominated for A Different Man, but I'm glad he was nominated overall. He gave two great performances last year.

I'm on board with The Brutalist and Conclave for Score, but Challengers getting shutout is ridiculous.

Very happy to see Fargeat get in for Director.

The Golden Globes really raised the profile of I'm Still Here.

Emilia Perez having the same amount of nominations as Oppenheimer last year is just insane to me.

I try to see all of the Best Picture nominees, at least, but ugh, I have zero interest in Wicked.

That is a very competitive Best Animated Feature category! I juuuuust want to give it to Flow, but barely.

I can't wait for my aunts to all watch The Substance because it was nominated for Best Picture. This will be fun!
