Re: Bugonia (2025, D: Lanthimos) S: Plemons, Stone

I watched this one last night. Plemons was terrific though after roles in Breaking Bad and Black Mirror I liked seeing him play a stable minded good guy in Killers of the Flower Moon. I had the ending spoiled months ago. It didn't stop me from enjoying most of it but I felt it really shits the bed in the end. It's also another movie that leaves me with no desire to ever watch it again. I was reminded of other movies that had someone held captive told with a handful of characters, like The Collector with Terence Stamp or Polanski's Death and the Maiden, that had more weight and involved me way more in the characters, and they never even got Best Picture noms, though William Wyler did get a director nom at the time. I wonder what the movie would've been like had they played it straight, having the lead not motivated by seemingly crazy beliefs but grounded in real world healthcare grievances.

Watched it on Peacock and liked it, more than Pretty Things. I probably won't watch it again, though, and agree the big reveal was meh.

We watched this tonight, working on the Best Picture Nominees. My wife knew some, I went in 100% cold. That was a bizarre and entertaining movie. I saw a lot of that coming from a mule away, but I had fun, all the same.

At one point, I asked my wife, is this A24?! It isn't, so kudos to the Focus Features folks for keeping up with the weird studio!
