The last two didn’t lose their cast and director and have to start over.

Yeah you can't just spit these things out. It's not like it's cool opening, Neve Campbell, ghost face, a reference to her past, disappointing killer reveal, credits. These things are art.

Given how self aware and self referential these films are, I wonder if this one will address sequels that intentionally omit certain previous entries (like 2018's Halloween or Terminator: Dark Fate). Be a way to retcon 5 and 6 as Stab movies, thus erasing the Carpenter sisters and bring back Dewey.

I love this idea. My actual favorite is Scream 4, and I really didn't like Scream 5, and thought the last one was terrible. So yeah, I agree with you to just erase the Carpenter sisters...Great idea...

I'm thinking the best way forward is to call the next film "Scream Too!" and start fresh with the Neve Campbell character after "Scream" (1996) a'la Halloween.

Re: Scream 7 (2026, D: Williamson)

Patrick Dempsey is teasing that he might be involved in Scream 7 and will reprise his role in the slasher film.

Dempsey originated the role of Mark Kincaid in 2000’s Scream 3, playing a detective investigating the most recent Ghostface murders.

With a seventh installment of the Scream franchise underway, Dempsey confirmed he is in talks to reprise his role.

“I’m waiting on the script,” Dempsey said on the Today show.

Dempsey’s Mark survived Ghostface’s attacks in Scream 3, and in 2022’s Scream, it is revealed Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott has married and had three children with him.

“There has been a conversation about it,” he added. “I haven’t seen anything yet. So, we’ll see what happens.”

Dempsey recalled working with Campbell again on Grey’s Anatomy in Season 9, playing Derek Shepherd’s sister, Liz.

Al Roker asked Dempsey if he was open to returning to the Scream franchise, to which the actor said, “I mean, you know, it’s always good to have a job.”

Mckenna Grace (star of the last two Ghostbusters movies) is being linked to the role of Sidney's eldest daughter in this. The character is rumored to be named Tatum Kincaid (aw.... that's nice).

Cox seemed to hint recently that she'll return as Gale, though the trades haven't confirmed she signed on yet.

Nice. She was a highlight of both new ghost buster films.

Re: Scream 7 (2026, D: Williamson)

At what point would people decide it is best to stay away from Sidney?

"Hi, my name is Sidney, we just moved into the neighborhood"

Neighbor: "shit, hey kids, get in the fucking car we are moving right now"

Is there something about her name I'm not getting? Is it a reference to a character I've forgotten? A Google search turned up nothing.

EDIT: Oh, wait. Tatum Riley. Now I get it.

Spoiler:

That could be something they're playing with in this installment.

Spoiler:
There are plot rumors about Sidney being targeted by an upitty neighbor/homeowners association type who feels her presence is a danger to their community. Judy Greer was supposedly linked to that part, but it may all be a crock.

Re: Scream 7 (2026, D: Williamson)

At this point, the best possible twist would be that the Ghostface killings would be revealed to be unrelated to Sidney or anyone related to the Woodsboro murders, with the Ghostface MO used to cover up some unrelated crime. And even that would be dumb, given how many of these killers Sidney has taken down. Besides, how many copycats can there be?

Thought they'd cast a bit younger (she's 24), but I can buy it. She looks like she could be the kid of Campbell and Dempsey.

McKenna Grace has been cast after all - but not as Sidney's daughter, I guess. She'll be joined by her Ghostbusters co-star Celeste O'Connor, as well as Asa Germann (son of Ally McBeal actor Greg Germann) and Sam Rechner.

It's reportedly set to finally start filming January 7 under the codename "Scar Tissue".

A codename is worthless if divulged before a movie goes into production.

Re: Scream 7 (2026, D: Williamson)

A quarter of the "core four" from Scream VI is back: Mason Gooding is returning as Randy's nephew Chad. Did not expect that. The article mentions Jasmin Savoy Brown has not signed on to reprise his twin sister Mindy "yet", so that might be another deal they're working out.

Re: Scream 7 (2026, D: Williamson)

How about Scream 5 and 6 were actually reinventions of the Stab movies inside the universe. Almost documentary style with some of the real victims involved in those two newest movies. Seven could actually be a turn back to the real Scream universe. The ending of six is so absurd that it would almost have to exist in a movie and not real life.

I suggested something similar earlier in the thread. Either approach would befit the self aware nature of this franchise.

Re: Scream 7 (2026, D: Williamson)

Fans were speculating Chad might be Gale's new cameraman, which is one way it would makes sense to have him in this movie without Tara and Sam.

Anna Camp was announced yesterday. Her character is supposedly Sidney's BFF, a part Keri Russell was rumored to be circling a few months ago.

Re: Scream 7 (2026, D: Williamson)

Any takers Gale actually bites the dust, or any main character actually dies despite having what otherwise should be mortal wounds inflicted by Ghostface? Or were those subverting expectations?

Still no announcement about Patrick Dempsey returning. Wonder if holding out for a bigger pay day lost him the gig. I mean, they can always just have Sidney married to a different guy named Mark.

I didn't even know there was a Scream VI or maybe I did.

I am not sure.
