I rewatched the Silent Partner the other day. And I totally forgot one of the plot twists in the middle of the film. It's weird , you think it going to be kind of predictable and then it sort of turns into a totally different film. I hadn't seen it in a few years. And after watching it, oh so this is why I love that film.

Who'll Stop the Rain is the Nick Nolte drug film right? I think I bought it from Twilight Time and watched it and thought it was a very 70s film. Anti Vietnam War and just one that only could have been made in the 70s.

Here's a couple of favs I haven't seen mentioned: Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, and The Driver.

I originally had that included. But I shared that list with my friend and he shamed me for not having any Scorsese on it. So I too removed "Network" and added "Taxi Driver". Truth be told, I thought "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" was better. But like both.

I see you're a Bogdanovich fan. I've been trying to find "Nickelodeon" for years and can't find it anyone. Saw it when I was a kid and loved it. It didn't do well at the box-office. But a year later there was talk about re-releasing it in black & white since "The Last Picture Show" and "Paper Moon" were so successful. I'm guessing they felt it could help sell it. That would have been fun to see. "What's Up Doc" was one many 70's movies that had a few re-releases.

I'll be honest, I have not seen Nickelodeon in many years. But there was a time when it was on TV a lot. Burt Reynolds was a big star and this was a movie starring Burt Reynolds. So I saw it a lot. Same thing with WW and the Dixie Dance Kings. But even when I was young, I was interested in movies about making movies. Coincidentally, I always really liked the movie Hooper that also starred Burt Reynolds.

"WW and the Dixie Dance Kings". Wow, that takes me back. I saw every movie that came out when I was a kid. No matter what it was. I just loved films. Here are two movies about making movies I'm curious if you saw or even heard of. "Hearts of the West" and "Won Ton Ton, the Dog Who Save Hollywood". And I think "Hooper" was one of Burt's best.

Re: The best movies from the 70's

I'm a bit surprised that nobody list The Duelists first film directed by Ridley Scott before he became a household name with his second film Alien. Amazing film with great cast, Harvey Keitel and Keith Carradine were great in the film.

Most all of the movies I'd have selected were mentioned above. A couple exceptions I can think of at the moment namely 2 from Peter Yates: Friends of Eddie Coyle and Breaking Away

Best decade for Movies I agree, but the 1960's was the best decade for music IMO.

I like a lot of stuff from the 60s and 80s but my desert island records would be 70s.

I've seen Won Ton Ton, but don't really remember about it. Never saw the Jeff Bridges one.

Re: The best movies from the 70's

Whether you like her or revile her, Jane Fonda had generally great instincts on picking worthy projects through that whole decade

They Shoot Horses, Don't They?
Klute
Coming Home
China Syndrome
are all quality films.

Kramer Vs Kramer is another one I didn't notice on anyone's list.

A few more personal favorites, along with some others I don't think have been mentioned-
The In-Laws
The Buddy Holly Story
The Late Show
Going In Style
Harry & Totnto
The Prisoner Of Second Avenue
The Goodbye Girl
The Fury
Foul Play
A Touch Of Class
Women In Love
Norma Rae
Performance
Gimmie Shelter
McCabe & Mrs Miller
Shampoo
The Parallax View
Phantasm

You're both right - the early 60s to late 70s was the best period for rock/pop music. You just can't beat the variety of quality music in those years.

I think the late 50s to mid-80s was the best.

It's not easy to narrow down your favorite music to a tight 30-year window like that.
