"The Carrie Nations" in Beyond the Valley of the Dolls! Three Playboy bunnies badly lip-synching cheesy rock tunes in a Russ Meyer movie! Pure camp greatness.

Thanks for the heads-up. Because if it doesn't include "We're hot as love", I don't even wanna waste my time watching it. I still have no idea what happens in the subsequent minute or two of Phantasm after that line, because I'm too busy roaring with laughter

A couple of TV shows...
The Seeds on the Mothers-In-Law:
And Pain with lead singer William Forsythe on CHIPS. Rest assured everyone, Erik Estrada sings "Celebration" at the end of the episode to get the bad taste out of your mouth left by punk music.

It may be the only time a band played in a movie and then added one of the actors as a permanent member the band.

Playboy After Dark had some memorable musical performances. Grand Funk Railroad was on in 1969 (lip-synched, unfortunately, but very cool nonetheless). Bonus points for identifying the young woman at the beginning sitting in front of the drum kit ...
And Deep Purple from 1968 ...

Variation of the topic.
Artist records song for movie and has a cameo. Example: Huey Lewis records "Power of Love" for BTTF and has cameo as teacher.
Or
Artist records song(s) for a movie and has major role. Example: Jerry Reed/Smokey And The Bandit, Dolly Parton/9 To 5.

To further twist that, there's the Huey Lewis/Gwyneth Paltrow karaoke duet version of Cruisin' from the movie Duets, which is at least as good as the Smokey Robinson original.

Alice in Chains and Soundgarden in Singles. The guys in Pearl Jam appeared as a cameo in a fake band "Citizen Dick", which had Matt Dillion's character as the singer.

I've also been really charmed by all the bands performing on the fictional Larry Sanders talk show. Butthole Surfers being a crazy standout.
