Favorite band performance in a non-concert movie

Watching From Dusk 'Til Dawn and loving the band playing at the Titty Twister.

Made me think of all the great scenes in movies with a gratuitous live band performance.

For example, my favorite might be Bauhaus in The Hunger.

Any other favorites?

Fire, Inc!

Of course, I Can Dream About You is awesome as well, but since that's not really the singer, I am not sure it counts.

My Male Curiosity by Kid Creole and the Coconuts in Against All Odds.

Also, and this may not really count, but the brief cameo of Philip Glass playing Truman Sleeps in The Truman Show.

The Feelies in Something Wild is nice as it's a cover song too ...

Tito & Tarantula are badass. The lead singer Tito Larriva is an early Los Angeles punk rocker. I think, he or his band The Plugz, were featured on Repo Man back in the mid-80's.

I like Ministry playing live in Spielberg's A.I.:

That's the song they're playing live in the film. The funny part is if you watch interviews with lead singer Al Jourgensen he talks about how SS had no idea who they were, but because they looked rough, they'd fit right into the film. I don't believe SS thought highly of them after he found out who they were.

Piper Perabo in Coyote Ugly. Her character is singing, but LeAnn Rimes is the voice. Can’t believe this was 23 years ago. I still have the special edition DVD.

Decker it’s funny you left out the best song from Streets Of Fire.

Phantom Of The Paradise has a few as well. Goodbye Eddie Goodbye is outstanding.

Probably sounds dumb to most, but I love the end of Howard the Duck when Lea Thompson is singing/performing with a band. I'm not even positive it's her voice but I thought I read that it was. Might be kind of a lame movie (although I still like aspects of it), but for some reason that song just slays me every time I hear it.

And I completely agree with the Feelies song in Something Wild...that's a great one...

Dino, Desi and Billy in the Matt Helm movie, MURDERERS' ROW (1966):

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...def2f22bf3.jpgDean Paul Martin: [after a performance by "Dino, Desi & Billy" at a discoteque] Hey, now you're swingin' Dad!

Matt Helm aka Jim Peters: Dad?

Suzie Solaris: He calls everybody Dad.

Matt Helm aka Jim Peters: Don't he know?

Suzie Solaris: He's a wise son who knows his own father.

Matt Helm aka Jim Peters: The way they're wearing their hair nowadays it's a wise father that knows his own son.

I've always enjoyed "Sugar High" at the end of "Empire Records". I love that Zellweger misses her entrance because she wasn't ready but then gets super into it. It's such a realistic moment.

The Plimsouls in Valley Girl
The Afghan Whigs in Beautiful Girls
The dark wave band Babel in Howling 2
It's much too short, sadly, but Miles Davis, David Sanborn, Larry Carlton, and Paul Schaffer as the street musicians performing We Three Kings in Scrooged

Nice to see that the Yardbirds performance in Blow-Up has been noted a couple of times ...

Can't forget Crime and the City Solution in Wings of Desire. Rowland Howard was such a badass.

I know I've pimped this several times here, so forgive me for bringing it up again, but Gary Busey as Buddy Holly in The Buddy Holly Story. Not only is it not lip-synched like Lou Diamond Phillips miming to Los Lobos in La Bamba, but the songs were actually performed by the actors live on camera. Watch the performance of That'll Be The Day in the opening scene of the film; at one point you see the drummer physically adjusting the placement of the snare drum. Just like the mention of Renee Zelwegger being late at the start of a verse in Empire Records, it lends such an authenticity to the scene.

And of course, you can't go wrong with Elton John performing Pinball Wizard in Tommy, with The Who as his band.

First one I thought of. Big bonus points for it being from the Page/Beck era of the band.

All the musical performances in Sing Street. One of the best movies in general over the last 10 years. "No woman can truly love a man who listens to Phil Collins."

Sparks in Rollercoaster.

The Late Bronze Age, which I only recently found out was a real band, in Getting it On- “This band you sent doesn’t play jazz- they play shit!”
