Promethus fell flat for me for one simple reason... it revealed too much about the Space Jockey from Alien.

I was actually okay with the Ancient Aliens-style woo-woo that it brought into the franchise (which has a Lovecraftian bent anyway, so it fits in)m but I though revealing what the Space Jockey was a hug mistake. The Space Jockey was cool because nobody knew what the fuck it was. Like, how long had it been there? What was it doing there? Why were all of those xenomorph eggs on its ship? But when you reveal that was an "Engineer" in a funky-looking space suit, that's all it can be.

Prometheus would have been so much better if it had still taken place in-universe, but had minimal ties to the other movies.

I don’t see it on either of these online trailers, but in a movie theater yesterday, I saw a trailer for this movie which included a very brief shot of this very image, in bronze relief, on a door of the space station.

Didn't click on that, but did end up seeing the newest trailer before Deadpool & Wolverine . . .

Each thing I have seen has made me less and less excited for this. It doesn't look bad, so I won't crap on it. It just looks like a shit-ton of fanboy "meh" that doesn't do anything new or bring anything worthwhile to the franchise. Honestly, it looks like a step somewhere between AVP and AVP: Requiem.

Will still be there though . . . I hope I am wrong.

There was a new TV trailer on tonight that I quickly turned off... I've seen enough to know I want to see it. Don't need to see anything additional.

Mostly agree, it's a slick looking modern horror movie...nothing wrong with that, but I prefer my Alien movies to feel more elevated, a little more A24. (that's what the original was imo) Will probably go to the first IMAX showing of this, still looking forward to it... but it will likely be a far cry from the original. Ridley didn't do any better with his last installment either, substituting language and gore for intensity/horror.

I think Dr. DVD was referring to this film's standing in terms of relative quality to the rest of the franchise, rather than its chronological placement.

Given the most recent outings in the franchise, I'm just hoping for something that's a nice throwback to the first two and doesn't have a bunch of blatant stupidity. It doesn't have to be a masterpiece or break boundaries like the first two, just don't suck. The AvP entries undeniably did, Alien 3 did IMO, but it was a behind the scenes mess. Resurrection, Prometheus and Covenant all started with promise, then sucked.

You would think someone named The Movieman would be into, you know, seeing movies. I just don't know how one can be on the fence about this. The trailer looks bad-ass. You have Fede who has a really good resume of movies. It's gotta approval from Ridley who is a crotchety man so that's a big plus there. I mean come on, this is a a day one flick.

I agree - I dont like that the Xeno's themselves ended up just being another science experiment gone wrong type of thing. Their origin and backstory are also better lieft as is. The Queen idea in Aliens worked fine for me. Prometheus would have been better off having nothing to do with Alien/Aliens. Even then, that movie just doesnt quite work.

Im nervous about Romulus since we've waited a long time for anything really good to come out of this franchise. Trailer looks like a generic slasher flick but I could be wrong.

I have heard rumors that while this movie won't remove Prometheus from canon, it will at least offer an alternative to David being the one who created the Xenomorph. In a way, you can kind of draw that conclusion for yourself if you watch Prometheus and Alien. Prometheus only takes place about 20-40 years before Alien, and the ship they find in Alien is allegedly 100s of years old. So it can be presumed the Engineers/Jockeys were making their weapons one of which was the xenomorph and the one they found in Alien was a failed attempt to transport them to Earth . David's version was basically a knock-off he made with what he found of Engineer technology and science.

I normally wait for movies to come to Blu-ray/4K UHD instead of seeing it theaters. Heck, Deadpool and Wolverine was the first time I had been to the theater since 2018 (Aquaman).

Just as a side, I made an account here when I was 26. I'm now (almost) 44. :( Back then I was at the theater on a weekly basis, sometimes two movies a week depending on what was out.

Don't feel bad. I'm three years older than you and started my account when I was 24 and DVDs were actually still a thing (hence my outdated name ;) ). I too used to go to movies at least once a week, even driving up to an hour to catch art house flicks in a major city. Made me feel like I was a part of the greater culture I guess. I actually just stopped about two or three years ago when the whole MoviePass thing came to a halt. I still have a smaller membership program to one theater, but just don't partake as much as I did because, well, most movies aren't that great anymore. I only go to theaters if it's by a filmmaker I like or something so big in scale that it requires a big screen. The arthouse stuff now gets streamed after it comes to a service, as well as some of the bigger stuff that I feel has been played out in theaters (Transformers movies, Pixar sequels ).

However, I will be seeing this one in theaters as I was too young to catch the first two installments, so I'm kind of trying to make up for that all these years I guess.

Well, that's one way of looking at it. Here is another (and why I am on the fence):

The trailer looks like bad ass.

Fede's resume is . . . meh . . . full of slasher gore films.

Ridley's approval is jack shit, as he is an overhyped, washed up, self-important pompous ass. His approval only means he doesn't feel threatened by it.

He is a crotchety old man, so we agree on that!

Yet, as an Alien fan . . . I will also agree it is a day one watch for me. But then, so was Alien vs. Predator, and that is where my expectation lies with this.
