Re: Alien: Romulus (2024, D: Alvarez, P: Scott)
This looks excellent and I'm glad to learn it's Alien 1.5 because it didn't have any continuity to the newer films... I really dig the lore they expanded to the last few movies. I do hope they go back down that road (as confusing as it was).

Re: Alien: Romulus (2024, D: Alvarez, P: Scott)
I'm excited - I'm not the biggest fan of the franchise but I enjoy them and have them on Blu-ray, and I like this guy's pedigree and enthusiasm.
The only issue I have is that since it's set between the first and second movies, how am I supposed to squeeze the Blu-ray into my Quadrilogy box? |
Re: Alien: Romulus (2024, D: Alvarez, P: Scott)
I don't like very gory movies, but I still love Alien films (I'm still traumatized by the alien abortion machine), so I'm torn. But I'll probably still see this in a theater.

That was a great interview with the director - yeah, super stoked for this. Hopefully its mid-August release date is not a concern.

I unashamedly love all the Alien movies, even the ones that are objectively bad. They're part of the background rotation on the television in my home office.

Covenant is my very first 4K experience in my home theater for that reason alone it will always be cool but it really has grown on me with repeated viewings.
I have enjoyed every movie in the franchise some more than others but this will be a theatrical experience for sure!! |
Re: Alien: Romulus (2024, D: Alvarez, P: Scott)
Teaser Trailer was fun.
I've enjoyed everything Fede Alvarez has done thus far. |
Re: Alien: Romulus (2024, D: Alvarez, P: Scott)
looks good but derivative... what more can be done in this universe.

I barely remember what happened with the xenomorphs in Covenant but I recall the crew interactions were pretty fun.

Re: Alien: Romulus (2024, D: Alvarez, P: Scott)
I only love the first Alien, Covenant, and Prometheus, I like Aliens, and don't care for any of the others.
This looks good but call me crazy, it also looks kind of low budget. Alvarez is a good filmmaker but his Evil Dead bored the shit out of me so I'm definitely not getting my hopes up, but Scott still attached may safeguard it. |

However, I loathed Álvarez' script for Don't Breathe 2, and couldn't bring myself to sit through much of The Girl in the Spider's Web. |

That's a weird movie. There's just something about it that I can't quite put my finger on. It's not a terrible movie by any measure, but I just kind of found myself bored with it and didn't think it was scary at all. There was just something sort of... antiseptic?... about it. It just felt really by-the-numbers and professionally made to the point where it was just kind of boring and unengaging.

Re: Alien: Romulus (2024, D: Alvarez, P: Scott)
I didn't get around to watching Evil Dead 2013 until a few months ago and I did enjoy it, though it was a slow start but once it got rolling it really got rolling.

Re: Alien: Romulus (2024, D: Alvarez, P: Scott)
I have seen some videos saying this movie will address loose threads from both Prometheus and Covenant . I won't spoiler tag because it's pretty much all theory and inference. They are thinking that the Xenomorphs were always a creation of the engineers and that the craft they found in the original Alien really was from many years ago as originally claimed. What David was doing in Covenant was trying to replicate what they had done and create his own version of the species. This actually makes sense when you think about it, as the Engineer in Prometheus immediately tried to leave for Earth upon awakening, and it can be inferred the derelict ship was probably on a similar mission when things went awry on board.
I also have to say that after seeing Civil War this weekend, I have high hopes for Cailee Spaeny in the lead role of this installment. |

I always felt the same. Especially given the xenomorph mural seen in Prometheus.

This actually makes Prometheus a bit more palatable, aside from the stupid characters. The best thing to do is just look at it as originally intended before they apparently got wishy washy; a science fiction story that takes place in the same universe as Alien. They give you enough information about the Engineers and what they were doing to where you can put the pieces together yourself.

Re: Alien: Romulus (2024, D: Alvarez, P: Scott)
I dunno'. Given the way our world has changed since Prometheus came out, maybe that aspect isn't looking quite so ridiculous . . .
