The best movies aren't the ones people are clamoring for. They are movies that were made just to be good movies.

I haven't seen Barbie yet, but I'll wager that it's a much stronger brand than Looney Tunes is and ever will be.
Before the Barbie movie the brand was straight to DVD shitty 3D movies that looked like Veggie Tales. Barbie toy sales have been on the decline for a decade or more with Monster High pulling in the dough (and Bratz at one point). A declining brand saw a way to take a risk with a big budget movie and it paid off and made them relevant again.

Looney Tunes is a different beast in terms of merchandising, but like Barbie, they quietly exist even if other properties have taken lead. They are in a similar spot though where they could take a risk on a big budget movie (like Coyote) and the payoff could put them in the spotlight again.

And since we're discussing movies, WB should have aped Disney/Pixar's model and do Looney Tunes shorts before other movies.

If you don’t know who Bauza is, he’s a voice over actor. He’s the current Bugs Bunny.

I thought there would've been a deal announced for this already.

The Supreme Court remanded it back to the District Appeals Court . . . so . . . delays.

Looks like this movie is dead. WB has apparently rejected all offers.

Maybe they'll realize all the buzz has been free advertising and they'll release it themselves.

No, if you read the article, unless something dramatic happens, they plan to delete the movie forever. Then they will take the $30-40M tax write off before their next earnings report.

According to the article, WB had a firm price they wanted and while they got offers, none of them were what they wanted, so they balked.

Re: Coyote vs Acme (2024)

If the offer is $1 above the tax write-off amount, wouldn't it make more sense to accept the offer?

I believe their thinking is that if Paramount buys it, releases it theatrically, makes money, then makes money off digital sales, physical media and such, they want to be compensated for the full production costs they put in. Otherwise, they would rather eat it for the write off.

I can't wait to see the eventual movie based on the case surrounding this movie.

Re: Coyote vs Acme (2024)

The question now is will it be leaked? Doubt it considering most of the people in the production pipeline usually only have access to digitally watermarked files.

Given how long it was taking I had a feeling it was getting flushed. Makes me doubt Zaslaw was serious at all about selling it. What a joke.

Re: Coyote vs Acme (2024)

I don't see why the American taxpayer has to give WB, the studio that just made over a billion dollars on a Barbie movie, millions in tax credits for making and then scrapping a movie that is very clearly a viable money maker.

The WB executives reportedly never even watched the movie.

Re: Coyote vs Acme (2024)

I never thought Barbie would be hugely successful, still don’t think it’s that great.

“Scooby-Doo and Krypto Too” was completed and decided to be shelved like this, but a complete standard-def copy leaked online and it was later issued officially.

Re: Coyote vs Acme (2024)

If you're a billion dollar company seeking millions in the form of a write off from the government then you forgo ownership of said product. The government now owns your movie and is free to release it as is or sell it to Netfllix or elsewhere recoup the millions of dollars given to the billion dollar company.

How many movies would be shelved or written off if that were the case? Zero.

Re: Coyote vs Acme (2024)

That tax code needs to be fixed so that any film written off like this becomes public domain.

This is a disgrace that something from the Looney Tunes franchise, one of the longest running IPs out there, can just be buried like this.
