Coyote vs. Acme -- Wile E. Coyote animated movie in the works at WB
https://variety.com/2018/film/news/w...os-1202919639/
Warner Bros. is developing “Coyote Vs. Acme” as a Wile E. Coyote animated movie with “Lego Batman” director Chris McKay on board to produce. The sibling team of Jon and Josh Silberman, whose writing and producing credits include “Living Biblically,” “Bordertown,” “Deadbeat,” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” have been hired by the studio to write the “Coyote Vs. Acme” script. Wile E. Coyote is part of Warner’s Looney Tunes characters, which include Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam, Foghorn Leghorn, and Marvin the Martian. The dialogue-free Coyote character first appeared in 1949 in “Fast and Furry-ous,” the first of 49 cartoons in which he was never able to catch the Road Runner, despite using complex devices from the fictitious Acme Corporation. The Acme contraptions invariably fail, leaving the Coyote squashed flat or burnt to a crisp. McKay made his feature film directorial debut with 2017’s “Lego Batman,” which grossed $311 million worldwide. He was animation co-director on 2014’s “The Lego Movie.” Warner Bros. mixed Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes characters in 1996’s live-action/animated sports comedy “Space Jam,” which grossed $230 million worldwide. It also produced 2003’s “Looney Tunes: Back in Action,” starring Brendan Fraser, in 2003. The Silbermans are repped by ICM Partners. The news was first reported by Deadline Hollywood. |

When I saw MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - FALLOUT, I thought it was like a live-action Wile E. Coyote movie, with the Coyote as the good guy but the same things keep happening to him! I half expected to see "ACME" stamped on every vehicle gone awry with Tom Cruise in it.

It wasn't grounded in Nolan-like verisimilitude, unlike say Pokemon 2000... ;)

So is that why you hated Mission Impossible: Fallout? It was too far fetched for you to believe? ;)

Since it's a WB film, shouldn't the title be Coyote v. ACME instead?

I sort of like the idea of revitalizing the Looney Tunes characters and bringing them to the big screen without feeling the need to mix in live action characters too. Sort of surprised Wile E. Coyote is the first choice to receive a movie though. I’m sorta curious but also a bit hesitant.

Why would the sole being that keeps ACME afloat be against it? Unless Wile E. super genius has a class action lawsuit against the manufacturer.

Wouldn't Coyote vs Road Runner make more sense, or is that too on the nose?

Coyote vs Acme (2026)
John Cena is going from the bullet- and F-bomb-strewn world of Peacemaker to the more family-friendly yet no less hazardous world of Looney Tunes. The actor has closed a deal to star in Coyote vs Acme, a live-action/CG animation hybrid feature from Warner Bros. centered on the classic Looney Tunes character Wile E. Coyote. Dave Green, who previously helmed Earth to Echo and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, is directing. Chris DeFaria and James Gunn are producing the film. Screenwriter Samy Burch penned the latest draft of the script, based on the New Yorker humor article “Coyote v. Acme” by Ian Frazier, published in 1990. Wile E. Coyote is, of course, the silent and cunningly inventive mammal who is endlessly foiled in his attempts to capture and kill his nemesis and potential meal, the Road Runner. He is aided in his attempts by devices mail-ordered from Acme Corporation, which never quite work the way they are supposed to. The feature will tell the story of a down-on-his-luck (human) attorney who takes on Wile E. as a client in his suit against Acme over its defective products, only to discover that his boss at his former law firm is representing Acme. Cena will play the former boss in the feature, which seems like part courtroom drama, part family comedy. Production is due to begin in late March in New Mexico. A champion WWE wrestler, Cena has made huge strides into acting, tackling profane comedies (Blockers, Vacation Friends) and family comedies (Playing With Fire) in equal measure, as well as adventure and action movies. Last year he starred in both F9: The Fast Saga and The Suicide Squad, the latter a Warners DC movie that spun off his character, Peacemaker, into his own series for HBO Max. The show has proven to be a buzzworthy draw for the streamer, and earlier Wednesday HBO Max announced it was renewed for a second season. Cena is repped by ICM Partners |
re: Coyote vs Acme (2024)
ummmm WTF is this? Live-action Wile E? This will be a train wreck.

re: Coyote vs Acme (2024)
I saw this a day or so ago and I still can't think of what to write. I grew up on Looney Tunes. We didn't go to church, cartoons like this were my holy texts. I hated the Space Jam movies and generally don't like any mixed type movies (Roger Rabbit is an exception because it leans into the concept) but this concept here sounds kinda fun.
If they keep the 'toon characters as animated, like in the classic style, with some fully animated sequences, it could be interesting. |
re: Coyote vs Acme (2024)
History hasn't shown many live action / animated hybrids that have worked out well. Cena is fun enough, but only time will tell if this turns out ok.

re: Coyote vs Acme (2024)
 Mary Poppins, Roger Rabbit, Space Jam, Enchanted & LEGO Movie, immediately come to mind. That's a decent buncha films.

re: Coyote vs Acme (2024)
EXCLUSIVE: Will Forte and Lana Condor are set to join John Cena in Warner Bros’ Looney Tunes animated hybrid pic Coyote vs. Acme. Dave Green will direct, with a screenplay from Samy Burch based on the Looney Tunes characters and the New Yorker humor article “Coyote v. Acme” by Ian Frazier. The film follows Wile E. Coyote, who after ACME products fail him one too many times in his dogged pursuit of the Roadrunner, decides to hire a billboard lawyer to sue the ACME Corporation. The case pits Wile E. and his lawyer (Forte) against the latter’s intimidating former boss (Cena), but a growing friendship between man and cartoon stokes their determination to win. Chris DeFaria and James Gunn are producing, the latter, who also created the Peacemaker series, under his Troll Court production banner. The film is set to bow in theaters on July 21, 2023. |
re: Coyote vs Acme (2024)
James Gunn being involved as a producer makes it slightly more interesting.

Cancelled like Batgirl even though it was filmed. No one will ever see it.

Bummer, this sounded fun.

re: Coyote vs Acme (2024)
Apparently the movie was actually very good.

re: Coyote vs Acme (2024)
That shit is nuts. Hopefully in the next negotiations for actors and behind the scenes talent, they can negotiate that this shit doesn't happen anymore.
