That Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes poster is pretty cool.

Had I not clicked on a thread with the actual title . . . Yep. First thing I thought was, "I may have to get that Planet of the Apes poster! Oh."

The new trailer is expected tomorrow. Also, Big G will debute a new pink form, with larger dorsal plates and a bulked up physique.

Looks fun! I love these movies--even the "bad" ones. I'm glad Rebecca Hall and the little Skull Island girl are back, but I could do without the podcaster guy. And I'm not sure about the baby Kong. But I will definitley be seeing this on a big screen.

If I hadn't just seen Godzilla Minus One yesterday, I would probably be a little more excited by this trailer. However, having seen it this only reminds me of how Hollywood is all about the glitz and spectacle over everything else with movies of this nature. I know that movies like this are the norm and Minus One the exception when it comes to this stuff dating back for most of kaiju movie history, so I won't judge it too harshly until I watch this installment. This just seems a little too Transformers inspired. FWIW, the shot of Godzilla and Kong running makes them look like they're about to fight for wrestling tag team titles.

Sure, I'll still see it next year. But, having also seen Godzilla Minus One, it really put my excitement for these Legendary/WB Kong/Godzilla movies in check. The characters look very computer generated as opposed to Minus One, which looked more practical.

Oof, them running at the end was cringe.

The tandem charge didn't bother because of how it looks, but because you know that's a shot from the final fight. Also, although it looks fun, the trailer all but confirms the rumours that Gojira only has a glorified cameo in this movie. Makes sense since the working title was Son of Kong.

I will eventually get some form of this in my system, probably by download at $10 but the preview I just saw couldn't have made me less interested. Mini Kong? That's supposed to sell it?
oh well, as long as I get at least five solid minutes of big monsters roaring at each other and lots of spittle flying, I will be both deadened in the soul, and…

Hopefully, the next movie (assuming this one is a success) course corrects to a tone somewhere between Godzilla (2014) and Godzilla Minus One (based on all the praise I've read for it). Or just aim for the tone and approach of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

Does Kong have a robot arm?

It looks like a mechanical brace. Some folks have joked that he's rocking the Infinity Gauntlet. I'm guessing the new villain, Skar King, breaks Kong's arm (and his axe) during their first encounter.

I love the tone. I'm enjoying the idea of Legendary doing the batshit fun stuff and Toho doing the somber, folly-of-man stuff.

I wish more IP owners would lean into the idea of letting two different teams work on their properties.

Don't get me wrong. I don't want American Minus One. I just wish the stories here didn't seem so barely stitched together. Then again, apparently GvK originally had a deeper story but the director cut it all to get to the fights faster. Made for a fun movie, but it felt like it was missing something. I'd like them to go the Monarch route in one of these movies.

Meh....The Godzilla and Toku Yall just need to MULTIVERSE things. It makes life better. Just think to yourself that Minus One and GxK happen in separate Universes.

This way you can enjoy both for different reasons. One doesn't have to hate one to enjoy the other.

When they revealed the antagonist ape, I thought to myself, “It’s great to see Koba getting work again.”

I don't need a multiverse explanation. They're merely separate continuities. I enjoy both, owning all the available Legendary Monsterverse flicks on UHD BD, and hoping for a UHD BD of Minus One. That being said, I prefer the approach taken with Minus One, in that I actually cared about the human characters. I don't get that feeling in any of the other Toho movies or the Legendary movies. And given how the Legendary movies insist on devoting so much screen time to the humans, I'd prefer said humans be better written.
