Yeah, it looks absolutely ridiculous but also kind of amazing.

After seeing Godzilla Minus One two times, I be skipping this one just plain awful and stupid.

Looks dumb AF. I will certainly buy the UHD release.

Godzilla Minus One (and Shin Godzilla to an extent) are the true tonal sequels to the original. These monsterverse movies are a legit continuation of pretty much every other Godzilla movie; fun monster destruction flicks.

Going in with no expectations other than to be entertained for a few hours.

I will say this though, that Godzilla tail baseball bat smash scene reminded me of some of the goofy shit in the Showa era.

Yup

When i think about it, everything Toho did with Godzilla after G54 seems "Monsterverse-ish" since the serious tone and message of Godzilla was all but gone by the 2nd film/first sequel "Godzilla Raids Again".

I love this series, including the Apple TV show. Dumb fun all around although Skull Island is still the best film out of them all.

I have enjoyed all of these (and agree that Kong: Skull Island is the best movie, despite preferring Godzilla over Kong), and will definitely go see Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, but that trailer is unintentionally hilarious. They are trying so hard to make it seem this movie is akin to the conclusion of the MCU Infinity Saga, when all the movies are loosely connected at best.

Accented Cinema did a nice analysis of Toho Godzilla versus Legendary Godzilla.

Re: Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024, D: Wingard)

I will be seeing this but not expecting anything major. Just a fun monster romp like KOTM and GvK. I know this isn't going to be anywhere near the level of quality that was Minus One, and I don't think it's trying for that level. Potentially unpopular opinion: I enjoyed GvK , but in hindsight I think the big reason it got mostly positive reviews was due to the fact that it was the first big movie to try a release during the start of the "endemic." Audiences and critics alike were ready for escapism and it delivered.

Re: Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024, D: Wingard)

Bought a ticket for my local AMC Dolby Theater (I freaking love that theater, comfy seats, huge screen, great sound that makes your chair rumble, and the picture quality is top notch) for this Saturday afternoon last night.

The primo seats towards the back 3-4 rows in the middle of each seat row were just about completely booked, can't wait to see what will either be a film that has me groaning with how bad it was (just bad, not so bad that it is kind-of good, lol), or I will be pleasantly surprised at how entertaining the monkey on monkey action turns out to be.

I am also embracing eating lunch at the theater, a theater hot dog and curly fries for me, yes please. Maybe even a soda. I figured that since I paid for the ticket with an AMC gift card, that I can take that money and spend it on overpriced vittles.

ETA: If I only went to the theater enough to justify Stubs or A List, because as of now I might even struggle to break even with saving on the on-line ticket processing fees if I just went with Stubs. If I did not still have gift cards I would consider as I know you get discounts as you spend more on tickets and concessions. Once I use up my gift cards, I would probably be foolish not to pay for Stubs at AMC (I live nearly up the street from my AMC Newpark theater) after my GCs are exhausted.

Im still not sure if Ill see this in the theater, but I was surprised to see that three of the six screenings daily at the megaplex across the street from me are actually in 3D. When I dont see the 3D logo on the trailers and tv spots these days, I assume various new big movies wont have it, only to be pleasantly surprised quite often. The previous four films all got 3D Blu-ray releases, but Im skeptical that this one will at this point, so perhaps the theater is my only option.

I thought the 3D on this was good! With lots of "nature" settings and flying/floating sequences, Wingard used it to add depth, not to throw things at the screen. The way it should be.
