On Netflix now. I managed to get through about 10 minutes of it before I had to stop. If I can get myself in the right mindset I will try to finish it but damn...I've see better school talent shows.

It's Rob doing a family-friendly movie. Not sure one's expectations should be above ground-level.

Lol d2cheer. Someone in the comments on the AV Club review said they were one of the only sites to give it a good review. Truthfully, the AV Club review was a pretty solid dive into the film and makes me want to watch it this weekend. It actually sounds like a fairly easy watch.

Re: The Munsters (2022, D: Rob Zombie)
Folks will probably be horrified to hear me say this out loud, but I'd sort of like to see Rob Zombie take a crack at Star Trek, Star Wars, or Marvel. Not necessarily a movie, but something like a MCU Halloween special, or a similar one-off Star Trek or Star Wars thing on D+ or P+.

Re: The Munsters (2022, D: Rob Zombie)
A friend watched it and said it was just as dumb as any episode from the original run, and it helps to look at it that way. He also said it would be much better in B&W

Re: The Munsters (2022, D: Rob Zombie)
For those of you who have "taken one for the team" and watched this thing - is there any indication of where the $40 million dollars went?

Re: The Munsters (2022, D: Rob Zombie)
It's too bad Butch Patrick and Pat Priest were relegated to voices. And I think Rob had bragged getting original Munsters in his movie.

Re: The Munsters (2022, D: Rob Zombie)
Just finished it. It was about what I expected based on the trailers and reviews. I didn’t hate it but I’m glad it’s something I just watched on Netflix. The movie really just ends though. Both my fiancée and I were kinda baffled thinking, that’s it?

Re: The Munsters (2022, D: Rob Zombie)
I’m a huge fan of Zombie as a musician and filmmaker. This and 3 From Hell are such regressions in his career. I made it 50 mins into this and had to turn it off; cheap looking and ultimately pointless.

I was going to check this out this afternoon, but found out it isn't on Netflix in Canada. Now that I've been denied, I want to see it even more

 I'm a simple man. I don't know how to do any of that high-tech stuff and I'm certainly not learning/burning a free trial for The Munsters

Everything looks cool. Enjoying the Halloween goofiness. But I’m not feeling the wit. No grins from me.

Re: The Munsters (2022, D: Rob Zombie)
I enjoyed seeing Cassandra Peterson and thought the Count Orlock stuff was a fun idea. It helps keeping in mind that the original Musters weren't exactly the best TV either. That said, Jeff Daniel Phillips and Sheri Moon Zombie both felt really miscast and it really should have been about 15 minutes shorter. It wasn't as terrible as I expected, but I went in with bottom of the barrel expectations.

Re: The Munsters (2022, D: Rob Zombie)
Wow. I watched it today from a Redbox rental, and I actually enjoyed it, goofiness and all.
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...363d1005d.jpeg “THE MUNSTERS” PG - An astoundingly faithful recreation of the 60s TV classic, entertainingly nostalgic for those who watched the original series. Okay, so I seriously thought I was just taking one for the team when I rented Rob Zombie’s “The Munsters” from Redbox (also on Netflix, but I am in between months right now.) Especially after seeing the Rotten Tomatoes ratings. (33%? Somebody needs to get a sense of humor!) However, color me surprised (BTW the color scheme in this version is, uh, dead on!) The original Munsters was part of my 60s childhood and personally, I think Zombie hit the cheesy, campy humor, the character design and goofy over-the-top silliness right in the sweet spot. And yes, there are definitely sweet spots in this origin story, spotlighting Herman’s creation, his courtship of Lily, and how the two of them plus Grandpa (well, Lily’s father here) end up in the States. Also, this PG version is family-friendly in the same way the modern versions of The Addams Family can be, and I loved the various Universal Monster cameos. Plus, there’s a definite deep 60’s vibe permeating the entire production, such as Lily and Herman channeling Sony and Cher in a fun version of “I Got You, Babe.” Seriously, take a chance on Zombie’s “The Munsters”. Like me, you might find yourself very pleasantly surprised! Hey, I’m actually giving it 4 out of 5 lightsabers! This review is also available on my recently revived FB page ORBIWAN GOES TO THE MOVIES. |
Re: The Munsters (2022, D: Rob Zombie)
I gave this another try and found it ok in the context of being an extended TV pilot.
It was definitely 30 mins too long and Jeff Daniel Phillips ways awful as Herman. On the flip side, Daniel Roebuck actually carries the film as Grandpa. Richard Brake turns in a couple good supporting roles as well. I earnestly think this would have been a solid B-movie if it was Black and White, 30 mins shorter and had a fake laugh track. Still one of Zombie’s worst offerings. |
