“Badly” is the key word. I’m the original opener, you can tell Herman realizes he walked through the door and is like “Oops, oh shoot I just broke the door. Oh, well. Merrily on my way”. In the new version, he just looks like a fucking idiot walking through a poorly precut door break. You can’t tell what he’s thinking.

Same with Lily. In the original opener, you can tell she’s looking around and then checking that it’s not raining. When she sees it’s not, she continues happily. In Zombie’s version, she’s making similar movements but you can’t tell what the fuck she’s doing.

Granted it’s like 30 seconds and may not even be in the finished film but, fuck, it’s bad!

Is this going straight to streaming? If not, it needs to. This reminds me of the straight to video stuff that started popping up in Wal-Marts and such around late August that parents would buy for elementary school aged kids and pop in the VCR/DVD player constantly to keep them occupied whenever they were home from school in the weeks leading up to Halloween. Given the way Zombie writes for adults, I can only imagine that his writing for kids will involve lots of humor based on flatulence and other bodily functions.

When will they learn... Don't mess with the classics!

rotfl at the comments for 30 seconds of non movie related footage but that is how we react today. Looks like he nailed the look at least. I will give him the benefit of the doubt until we see a full trailer.

The original was pretty crap and one note, but Yvonne DeCarlo and Fred Gwynn are just really good performers who were able to flesh out laughs from what really wasn't done on script. A good screenwriter (ie not rob zombie) could probably make something better then the original.

That’s the thing, though. Based on his previous output, Zombie hasn’t earned the benefit of the doubt. That godawful 30 second spot isn’t doing him any favors.

Maybe it’s just because I wasn’t a fan of the show but I didn’t find that teaser to be that bad. Also you can’t really tell much about the movie from just that. I’m not expecting it to be great or anything but it might be fun enough for what it is.

Well, I know I'll watch it but sounds like a streaming or Netflix DVD rental.

Didn’t someone say it might go to Peacock? Not that I would rush to subscribe just for that, but I’d watch it on there eventually.

If he adds a laugh track, like on the the show, you couldn't force me to watch it. Other than that, why not?

I will say that the actor playing Herman looks an awful lot like Ed Gwynn (at least in that photo).

Agreed. I know nothing about his acting ability, but on looks alone he’s nailed it.

Sheri looks good as Lily and we know about HER acting ability.

Did Fred Gwynn have a brother we weren’t aware of? -wink-

SO. FREAKIN. BAD. rotfl rotfl rotfl

The acting was utterly horrific and blandly over-the-top (just self-consciously hamming it up), the comedy was practically non-existent and what was there didn't even remotely land, and the thing looks cheaply-made and badly filmed. Like a super turgid TV movie.

I know it's just a trailer but if you remove the music and whatever 60s TV nostalgia you may or may not have for the property, there was literally nothing good about that trailer that made me even want to watch this thing.

From Rob Zombie comes the greatest love story ever told as Herman and Lily’s crazy courtship takes The Munsters on a hauntingly hilarious trip from Transylvania to Hollywood.

The acting is so bad. It’s like watching an entire movie of Ralphie’s fantasy scenes from A Christmas Story!

I get that Zombie is going for that zany 60s sitcom feel but it just doesn’t look like it’s working. The scene with Herman pounding the table while laughing looked like the most polished scene, and even it didn’t didn’t quite work (the framing of the scene looked totally out of whack). Everything else looks like they used the first take of every scene. Like high school theater quality.

Also, the trailer makes it look like an origin story, of sorts. So no Eddie or Marilyn?

Regular Peacock or Peacock Premium? If Premium, I might check it out if they have a free trial.
