This was him in April. He didn't look healthy at all. I'm so sad by this news. 43 is way too young. He had so much left to contribute in the world.

It’s sad of course that he passed, but he also was a major character in a big franchise film. It’s going to be talked about.

I was hoping for the best, but prepared for the worst. Still a terrible shock, though.

It is amazing and sad to think this guy made it big, being in 4 Marvel films in such a short time, but was aware of/and battling cancer during all of it.

I remember years ago when someone posted to the Babylon 5 newsgroup that Andreas Katsulas was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, and the poster was scolded for posting it, because making it public would make him unhireable for whatever acting jobs might come his way.

So incredibly sad. I always loved his performances no matter his role. It’s just awful.

Actors tend to keep illnesses like this quiet because it makes them unhireable and uninsureable. Remember Kelly Preston, and how nobody knew?

Certainly one of the more shocking deaths, just due to the near complete secrecy of it all. Of course real life is more important, but this is a movie fan site... the impact of this is huge on the MCU.

Re: Chadwick Boseman dead at 43
He WAS T'Challa. He helped bring that character to life, and he helped make him a hero to a group of people who hadn't had many heroes like that on screen. I don't think he'd want that character and role model for so many African American kids to just disappear. I know he wouldn't. That would just be adding insult to injury.
That character needs to continue in order to keep that legacy alive.
I don't think it would be appropriate to throw casting ideas around on this thread, but the idea of continuing the character to honor Chadwick's legacy and to make sure those kids still have their hero on screen is something that is very valid.

Whoa, that's fucked up.

I would agree with that, too - except he helped make it such an important role that it's almost impossible not to talk about it.

Maybe we should just move that discussion to the BP thread? I was just looking and there are a few interviews like this one in which Coogler mentions he wants to do a female Black Panther film.
But I don't think Chadwick would want the character to disappear, and honoring his legacy by continuing the character is germane to the discussion here.
Chadwick definitely left one hell of a mark, and T'Challa was a big part of what he left behind.

Wow. I never knew he was battling colon cancer... not sure if it was kept quiet or if I was just out of the loop.
Never saw Black Panther (no interest), but he was a solid actor.

Honestly I don't think right now is an appropriate time to hypothesize who should play the new Black Panther? No one at Marvel or Disney is even thinking about it right now. People are in shock and mourning. The 2nd movie wasn't even close to being in production. I think Coogler was still writing the script, but who knows how he feels right now? Everyone right now is in shock.

Yes they are. That's a ruthless business with BILLIONS of dollars on the line. They're thinking about it big time.
Yeah, that is absolutely true.
I'm stunned just like everyone else. People who knew him had to know, but this hit the rest of us like a ton of bricks, and we never saw it coming.
He actually stood out in the usual 5 minute guest role on Castle he got. He had something. Then I saw 42 and was a fan. His performances as T'Challa were fantastic.
I'll say it again - the worst parts of this are the loss his family has to feel, and the loss of what could have been. He had so much great stuff ahead of him, and that's all gone. That's what really makes me sad - he'll never have the chance to accomplish all that he could have.

RIP Boseman.
Totally unexpected.
Kind of amazing that his cancer diagnosis was kept quiet for 4 years. He did all of those movies while taking treatments and none of his fans realized it. What a champ.

We are just finding out about this but the Marvel folks had to know for a while. Whatever will happen, they're well prepared.
Doesn't make it any better though. He was irreplaceable.
