I never saw the remake. I’m about to stop by the library to pick it up.

The TV show is great. It was forced to expand in the magic and plot, much like Army of Darkness. It’s pretty much a damn good 20 hour Evil Dead movie.

No idea what to expect from this new movie. Somewhere between the Series and Remake would be nice. The remake was cool but was pretty darn serious in tone.

re: Evil Dead Rise (2023, D: Cronin, P: Raimi, Campbell)

I’ve always been in the minority that thought the original Evil Dead was better than Evil Dead 2. I thought it was more effective playing it a bit straighter than they went in ED2. Of course, they went too far to that end of the spectrum with the remake of Evil Dead which was 100% serious and didn’t have any of the charm of the originals.

I like ED2 and Army of Darkness but they play it a title too hammy and campy for my taste. I only saw the first couple of episodes of the series but what I saw, I enjoyed.

I’ve always felt the same way. I used to get into arguments all the time with my friends about why the original Evil Dead is the best. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy 2 & 3. I can only take so much horror/comedy and those movies really toe that line.
Without Bruce in this, my interest level is much lower.

re: Evil Dead Rise (2023, D: Cronin, P: Raimi, Campbell)

EXCLUSIVE: Mia Challis (Clickbait) has joined the cast of writer/director Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise.

She’ll appear opposite previously announced cast members Lily Sullivan (Picnic at Hanging Rock, Jungle) and Alyssa Sutherland (The Mist, Vikings).

Evil Dead Rise is an HBO Max sequel to 2013’s Evil Dead, which served as a soft reboot of the supernatural horror franchise of the same name. In the fifth Evil Dead film, a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.

Challis will play Jessica, an 18 year old girl, who is obsessed with fashion and Instagram. Jessica loves to be the center of attention, although she is smarter than she lets on…

Sounds like a classic Evil Dead set up there!

Hmmm. Weird as to where this will go - I'll wait for the official trailer before judging. In the meantime, the makeup on the mother looked awesome.

Re: Evil Dead Rise (2023, D: Cronin, P: Raimi, Campbell)

Red Band:

Green Band:

New Line Cinema and Renaissance Pictures present a return to the iconic horror franchise, “Evil Dead Rise,” from writer/director Lee Cronin (“The Hole in the Ground”). The movie stars Lily Sullivan (“I Met a Girl,” “Barkskins”), Alyssa Sutherland (“The Mist,” “Vikings”), Morgan Davies (“Storm Boy,” “The End”), Gabrielle Echols (“Reminiscence”) and introducing Nell Fisher (“Northspur”).

Moving the action out of the woods and into the city, “Evil Dead Rise” tells a twisted tale of two estranged sisters, played by Sutherland and Sullivan, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.

“Evil Dead Rise” is produced by Rob Tapert (“Ash vs Evil Dead,” “Don’t Breathe”) and executive produced by series creator and horror icon Sam Raimi and cult legend and “Ash” himself, Bruce Campbell, along with John Keville, Macdara Kelleher, Richard Brener, Dave Neustadter, Romel Adam and Victoria Palmieri.

Cronin is joined behind the camera by director of photography Dave Garbett (“Z for Zachariah,” “Underworld: Rise of the Lycans”), production designer Nick Bassett (“Guns Akimbo,” “Sweet Tooth”), editor Bryan Shaw (“Ash vs Evil Dead,” “Spartacus”) and costume designer Sarah Voon (“Chasing Great,” “Inside”), with a score by Stephen McKeon (“The Hole in the Ground,” “Primeval”).

A New Line Cinema / Renaissance Pictures presentation of a Pacific Renaissance and Wild Atlantic Pictures production, “Evil Dead Rise” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures and is set to open in theaters in North America on April 21, 2023 and internationally beginning 19 April 2023.

The redhead from Vikings is in this. I love her, but that previous Evil Dead film (the remake) was godawful, so I will watch this on disc when it gets a home video release.

Likewise enjoyed the first one, and keen to see where this goes. The old ones are great, too, and the TV series was pretty good, but the concept always seemed much more . . . expandable (beyond Ash) and so far this looks like another step in the right direction.

Re: Evil Dead Rise (2023, D: Cronin, P: Raimi, Campbell)

I think it just looked like a generic modern horror film. Obviously there has been some good ones, I’m not knocking them all. Throw the necronomicon in there and wham, Evil Dead connection.

It was a mixed bag. The practical effects/gore and Jane Levy's performance were great. But the other actors sucked, and the Necronomicon being the spoiler book of the dead was irritating.

The red band trailer was good. But the same was true of the last one.
