I thought the character was good, but no more bringing people back from the dead, please. I don't care how much I enjoyed their presence. Let's all move on.

The Sequel Trilogy was such a creative disaster that anything built off of it is going to suck, full stop. It's a turd they just aren't going to be able to polish. And, unlike a bad franchise movie like Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, they can't just ignore it going forward because it taints anything made after it. Unless they want to take a full measure and decanonize TFA-TLJ-TROS. It's just not salvageable any other way.

I enjoyed the ST mostly because of the cast, and I bought the 4k of Rise of Skywalker but I don't think I've watched it once.

I still haven't summoned the will to see 9 once.

I enjoyed the first two, but have yet to make it through Rise of Skywalker in one sitting. I went to it twice in the theater and have attempted 3-4 viewings at home and have nodded off every time. I've seen the whole thing, but only in pieces. I have zero interest in anything building off where they took the story, despite being a Star Wars nerd since I was a little kid. I don't care about the talent involved, bringing Kylo Ren back from the dead for more was a shit idea and I'm glad someone had the sense to shoot it down.

The returning cast is the only reason that I enjoyed anything about the sequel trilogy. The rehash of episode 4 wasn't too bad, but if I wanted to watch that story again, I would have stayed home and watched Episode 4. Rey was the only new character that I found tolerable. I see quite a few people online pushing for more Kylo Ren and it makes absolutely no sense to me. People really want to see more emo darth vader that throws a hissy fit when he doesnt get his way?

Kylo Ren works because just as Vader was a reflection of perceptions of authoritarianism in the 1970s, Ren is a reflection of it now. I agree that he isn't my favorite of the new characters, but I can appreciate the premise of him, at least.

I think Kylo was the best part of the sequel trilogy. Or rather Adam Driver's portrayal of the character. I'd be interested in whatever he and Soderbergh were cooking up only because it's Driver and Soderbergh. But I'm also not going to lose any sleep over it when it doesn't happen.

I thought the point was getting away from continuing the Skywalker saga?

There is no getting away from the Skywalker Saga! They’ll continue using the Skywalkers even if they have to have a character steal their last name!

milo bloom 10-24-25 01:52 PM

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread

Nah, it's the Skywalker story and Ben Solo is the only Skywalker by blood in the story. I accept Rey taking the name, but I believe there's still more to tell about Ben's story. Remember, he and Rey are a Dyad in the Force, which is very rare and we don't know that much about it.

I've found myself getting more and more invested in this project as I see the comments from others on various social media platforms, and then somebody hired a banner message plan to fly over Disney that said Save The Hunt for Ben Solo.

For all the years since TROS until now, I had assumed Adam Driver wasn't interested in coming back to the franchise but to learn that he took two years to work on this script with someone like Steven Soderbergh, I think he's serious and I think he's trying to pull what Ryan Reynolds did several years ago when he leaked the Deadpool footage.

I'm excited, personally, and I'm not alone.

Yes, because the Skywalkers suck and we need to move beyond the Skywalkers, so instead of giving them an interesting conclusion they felt the need to burn everything to the ground in the Sequel Trilogy but then Rey Random-Palpatine takes the Skywalker name for reasons and they leave with her an open-ended conclusion in the final movie of the Saga.

OK, if they release the 77 versions officially on 4K, then my feet will be feeling cold.

Bold prediction, Star Wars 1977 will end up playing in theaters longer than a week. Demand will probably be that high.

2027 is as good a chance as any to to start building the brand back. 50th anniversary original SW theatrical release (while I wasn't sold by Lucasfilm's statement, Empire is pretty adamant in their article that it is indeed the original cut) followed by Starfighter in May. Nail those two things, follow up with some additional film reveals and that will be a big step in the right direction. (a first step into a larger world of actual positive SW news)

And Star Wars celebration for the 50th anniversary will be in Los Angeles in 2027. It’s going to be a huge event driven year for the IP.

Now they just need to book out premium screens for it in 2027.
