Kathleen Kennedy to retire at the end of the year
|
Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
They could never fire her. Unfortunately what had to pay was the Star Wars brand... currently at possibly the lowest point it has ever been. Post original trilogy and prequels looks like heaven compared to this current state. The Mandalorian movie will be an embarrassment - likely performing exactly like Brave New World.
Edit: I forgot, she managed to kill off Indy and Willow, the trifecta! |
Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
I would say "good riddance," but her stewardship of the franchise has done so much damage that I fear there's no going back unless they wipe the slate clean and start over with a new "Episode Seven." |
Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
Good riddance!

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
Damage has been done. They have a LOT of work to do. It isnt just making good movies, She blacklisted all the og fans, just because we didnt want the crap they were dishing out. They need to WWE her ass, and put all her belongings in a black trash bag and send her ass to the curb.

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
Unfortunately I don't think Lucas Films can come back from the damage she's caused, and she still has 9 months damage she can inflict. This was a bandage that needed to be ripped off, not given a soft parachute ride to the bottom.
Short of a Knights of the Old Republic style movie heavy on lore I don't know what's going to get me back watching, much less in the theater. |
Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
I'm not celebrating until there's an official press release and even then I doubt much will change. I don't know if it will happen but I hope George Lucas has some involvement with picking her successor.

Revenge of the Sith is coming back to theaters for its 20th anniversary

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
That poster is pretty cool!! I'll try to make to the theaters as it's my favorite of the prequels.

Why? Lucas handpicked Kennedy.

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
Kennedy has an amazing resume as a feature film producer. And that’s why Lucas thought she was right for the job. However, running a movie studio and overseeing all its creative and dealing with studio politics, was not the right job for her.

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
I can't see her time as a complete failure. The ST suffered from not having a plan but it gave us 2/3 fun movies and some honestly cool characters.
I think most of the TV shows have been enjoyable, I'm definitely a fan of The Acolyte, but all of the shows suffer from them putting filmmakers in charge instead of TV showrunners. Only Andor has managed to make that part of it work in it's favor. I just think she could stay as long she has creatives like Filoni making sure the story stuff is right and let her worry about the "producing" stuff. |

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
THR gave a list of potential successors and Dave Filloni is mentioned. I don't know why the "fans" want him so much. What does he know about running a studio? He's a guy who made cartoons before barely segueing to live action TV.

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
Needs to be a business person who's mission is to rehab the company and image brand. Ideally they'd also clean house as well, can't have employees who aren't onboard with the new direction. Doesn't need to be a fan (that's frankly Filoni's biggest weakness) in fact it may be better if they're more neutral.
|
Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
I think it does need to be a fan, someone with a love of the universe. Say what you want about Lucas but loved the universe. Kennedy had no concept of where things were headed and i don’t think she really cared. She tried to do safe projects with vanilla directors trying to appeal to everyone, while appealing to no one.

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
Why not just let A.I. run Lucasfilm at this point?

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
Lucasfilm needs to be gutted and rehabilitated, yes that takes an outsider with no loyalty to anyone. Filoni's worldview is no different than Kennedy's and will make no difference.

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
The few articles I’ve read this morning are painting the picture that it is mostly Disney higher ups that are to blame for her reign of terror. With the way the articles are titled, I was expecting the blame put on the fans, but those will probably come when we get closer to the date of her final days and the million different youtube videos about her.
I agree with these new articles, Disney has the final say and they are the ones pushing the nonsense that pushes people away. It just isnt lucasfilm, its the whole shit company. |

Wish I liked Ferguson's poster better but the design just doesn't work for me. Actually similar issue with Struzan's original poster as well - forcing Vader to be the dominate image.(which I'm sure was a studio mandate)

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
If they announced an Indiana Jones Star Wars crossover film with 85 year old Harrison travelling into space and hitching a ride with Alden Ehrenreich Han Solo on the Millenium Falcon to track down Jake Lloyd Darth Vader voiced by A.I JEJ, before he kills an Enemy Mine style pregnant Jar Jar Binks, I wouldn’t even be upset.
Besides my Original Trilogy Letterboxd VHS box set, Star Wars is 100% in my rear view mirror. They get no more money from me. Shits been in the toilet since I was 10. |
Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
That's interesting to see Ferguson's thought process about the poster, but that's an idea that shouldn't have made it past the thumbnail sketch. And I say that as an artist myself, you can justify your idea every way in your own head, but when every other rule of layout and color are telling you otherwise, it's a no go. I'm honestly surprised Lucasfilm approved the poster.
