I didn't see the Special Edition release of Jedi in '97 (good call, I guess), so I would go see the 40th. I agree it's the lesser of the first three, but I think it has two of the best sequences in the trilogy; the whole Jabba's palace opening, the final battle between Luke and Vader, which I consider the greatest scene in the entire series..

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
Disney should have had the 40th Jedi poster be a lenticular image of Wicket that blinks.

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
Maybe they can add some footage of Grogu celebrating the fall of the Empire with Mando.
TImeline be damned, there's toys to be sold! |

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
Although the least of the OT, ROTJ is far from terrible. It's just not as good as what came before. That being said, wasn't ESB mostly disliked upon initial release, despite the now iconic revelation within it, whereas ROTJ was hailed as a return to form? I believe ESB only gained its status as the best of the OT gradually and retroactively (I also recall ROTJ being referred to fondly as "the creature feature").

I hope so. If they ever put them out, they'll be presented like historical artefacts.

https://twitter.com/moviemantz/statu...ROaaX6I5S_8l2Q I never saw it in theaters. In 1983 I was only 10 and I saw it for the first time on VHS sometime in late 83 or 84. Can’t recall. I might consider going to see it this time. |

At this point, the "Special Editions" have been around longer than the original cuts.

The next SW celebration will be in Japan in 2025. Probably taking a year off until movies get into production

So I was looking up the autograph and photo op list for guests at Star Wars celebration in London just out of curiosity.
Here is the list: https://store.epicphotoops.com/star-...on-europe/2023 Unsurprisingly, Ewan McGregor is the most expensive at $300+ USD for autographs and photo ops. And he's completely sold out. Also, McGregor has COVID restrictions since he's currently working, so you can't touch him or stand near him. The person and him are divided by a droid. The 2nd most expensive appears to be Ashley Eckstein, who is the voice over actor for Ahsoka. She's $210+ USD. Wow. I follow her on Instagram and she seems very nice and all, but wow that's quite expensive for a VO actor. I've done a lot of autograph and photo op cons and there appears to be a pretty big mark up since it's "Star Wars" Looking at your links it looks like Billy Dee is actually more expensive than Ewan for solo autographs and photos. 270 vs 260 for a photo op and 260 vs 250 for an autograph. Personally, if I was going to spend the money on one or the other, I would opt for Billy Dee before Ewan for some pretty morbid reasons. But that Hayden and Ewan dual phot op/autograph would have been real tempting. |

I can't find anything explicitly stating it, but the ESB re-release looks to have been the same version as on the UHD Blu-ray and Disney+. If it had been the original theatrical cut, I think there would've been a lot of noise. Keep in mind that the ESB re-release in 2020 was one of the pandemic freebies studios were distributing to theaters to help prop them up, so it makes sense Disney/Lucasfilm just pulled an existing 4K master off the shelf to send out.
I highly doubt that ROTJ will be anything other than Lucas's "Final Cut" that was released on UHD. I suspect Disney is going to keep Lucas molified until he kicks the bucket, and the only real chance for a release of the original theatrical cuts is as an "extra" in some sort of set.

Disney and LucasFilm are far too complacent with the franchise to surprise us with the original version of RotJ. At this point, laziness abounds with everyone who has anything to do with Star Wars.

Definitely a markup due to it being Star Wars. The highest that I have seen personally is till Hammill at NYCC a few years ago for $300. I guess if you're known for very few things, and one of those is Star Wars, you have to milk it as much as you can.

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
4 days for the Star Wars celebrations live streams was kind of overkill. I skimmed some of today's, which started at 2:45am PT, and they repeated some interviews and interviewed writers and producers of the lesser popular Star Wars stuff. I think they were running on fumes.

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
Disney is scuttling the Galactic Starcruiser:
https://www.cnbc.com/2023/05/18/disn...o-shutter.html Disney World’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, a two-day hotel experience, is closing and will make its final voyage this September after being open for only more than a year. The experience blends elements of the company’s resorts, cruise lines and theme parks into a 48-hour romp in space. First teased during Disney’s D23 Expo in 2019, the Galactic Starcruiser, located near the company’s Orlando, Florida-based Disney World Resort opened in March 2022. The voyage costs around $1,200 per person per day, with family packages reaching closer to $6,000 for the two-day excursion. That can be a hard number to digest, especially considering a typical Disney vacation for a family of four can cost that much for a week-long trip, depending on hotel and restaurant choices. |
Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
Disney being run by the lawyer from Jurassic Park, trying to only cater to the ultra rich. Not the best strategy.

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
Did they try a coupon day?

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
shocked about the Star Cruiser. wonder how much that whole failed experiment cost them.

Last chance to shoot your cosplay pr0n in an authentic Star Wars environment.

Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
Disney was gouging people for that experience. Kind of glad it failed for them. I would have loved to have gone but no way I was paying the $4,000 or whatever stupid price it was.
They should have just made it more affordable as one of their hotels/resorts and kept the interactive part separate. |
Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread
I'm not glad it's closing, but I'm not surprised. Really, I'm just bummed there wasn't a way to make this an affordable experience for most people. Yet another Disney experience that my family is forever priced out of, and while I don't like it, I'm more okay with it than my kids and that's hard as a parent.
