I didn't see the Special Edition release of Jedi in '97 (good call, I guess), so I would go see the 40th. I agree it's the lesser of the first three, but I think it has two of the best sequences in the trilogy; the whole Jabba's palace opening, the final battle between Luke and Vader, which I consider the greatest scene in the entire series..

Although the least of the OT, ROTJ is far from terrible. It's just not as good as what came before. That being said, wasn't ESB mostly disliked upon initial release, despite the now iconic revelation within it, whereas ROTJ was hailed as a return to form? I believe ESB only gained its status as the best of the OT gradually and retroactively (I also recall ROTJ being referred to fondly as "the creature feature").

I've done a lot of autograph and photo op cons and there appears to be a pretty big mark up since it's "Star Wars" Looking at your links it looks like Billy Dee is actually more expensive than Ewan for solo autographs and photos. 270 vs 260 for a photo op and 260 vs 250 for an autograph. Personally, if I was going to spend the money on one or the other, I would opt for Billy Dee before Ewan for some pretty morbid reasons. But that Hayden and Ewan dual phot op/autograph would have been real tempting. |

I can't find anything explicitly stating it, but the ESB re-release looks to have been the same version as on the UHD Blu-ray and Disney+. If it had been the original theatrical cut, I think there would've been a lot of noise. Keep in mind that the ESB re-release in 2020 was one of the pandemic freebies studios were distributing to theaters to help prop them up, so it makes sense Disney/Lucasfilm just pulled an existing 4K master off the shelf to send out.
I highly doubt that ROTJ will be anything other than Lucas's "Final Cut" that was released on UHD. I suspect Disney is going to keep Lucas molified until he kicks the bucket, and the only real chance for a release of the original theatrical cuts is as an "extra" in some sort of set.

4 days for the Star Wars celebrations live streams was kind of overkill. I skimmed some of today's, which started at 2:45am PT, and they repeated some interviews and interviewed writers and producers of the lesser popular Star Wars stuff. I think they were running on fumes.

Disney was gouging people for that experience. Kind of glad it failed for them. I would have loved to have gone but no way I was paying the $4,000 or whatever stupid price it was.
They should have just made it more affordable as one of their hotels/resorts and kept the interactive part separate. |

I'm not glad it's closing, but I'm not surprised. Really, I'm just bummed there wasn't a way to make this an affordable experience for most people. Yet another Disney experience that my family is forever priced out of, and while I don't like it, I'm more okay with it than my kids and that's hard as a parent.
