Re: Rambo: Last Blood (Grunberg, 2019) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

I liked this more than I expected to. Loved the use of the Doors song in the tunnels near the end of the movie. Wish they had used the longer cut in the US as it seemed a little thin and could have used a little more fleshing out but the baddies getting it in the end was gruesome and strangely entertaining. Even my wife who is not a fan of gore liked this more than she had expected to.

Spoiler:
Did anyone catch exactly what caused the guys head to be more or less eviscerated in two spots? I couldn't track that to a specific weapon booby trap John had planted in the tunnels.

yes, that was great. but why on earth would he leave his iconic knife (he tossed it into the flaming boat)?? i was dumbfounded by that and couldn't believe he would do that. it's a part of him and character...

So it looks like the extended Rambo: Last Blood cut was released on Blu Ray... somewhere. I came across it on a place we aren't allowed to discuss here (and it is most definitely from a Blu-Ray, not a movie theater recording). Has a run time of 1:41:06 and the scene in the beginning where Rambo is helping the cops is in it.

My son and I have been going thru all the Rambo movies since he had never seen them (he's 15) and so we watched Rambo IV aka Rambo aka John Rambo aka First Blood Part IV aka ??? and I thought the exact same thing at this scene.

Yeah, maybe he is saying he is done with killing or whatever...but it just makes no sense to toss the knife away even if that was the reason. Otherwise, Rambo IV is my second favorite past the first one. I never really cared for II or III and after watching them again recently, it didn't change my opinion. My son busted a gut laughing when Rambo went Tank VS Helicopter in Part III just because he recognized the ridiculousness of the entire film. I had completely forgotten about that part.

IV has fantastic action and effects and the sound is home shaking. A unrelated note on that...I just got it for $8 for Black Friday and my Xbox One is my 4K player. I couldn't get the damn Dolby Atmos to work for whatever reason so it just decoded the regular DD surround but was still thunderous. After the movie I started messing with the Xbox and found you actually have to download an app to get Dolby Atmos playback for the damn thing. WTF? Anyway...got it now but missed having it for the movie last night. Still new to the 4K thing and my new receiver.

Looking forward to catching this eventually but just may rent it. Don't want to blind buy it with all the poor reviews and I am fine just owning First Blood and Rambo IV and not owning II or III.

Re: Rambo: Last Blood (Grunberg, 2019) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Although this was a complete rip off of Taken, I don't think it was as bad as everything I've read. It did have it's problems though...
They didn't want Gabriele going to Mexico alone, understandably, but why couldn't Rambo or Maria offer to take her? I know that then there wouldn't be a movie, but still.
Also, the friend Gizelle's entire plan banked on Gabrielle getting rejected by the father. Had the father not turned out to be a prick, there'd be no need to "cheer" her up & take her to the club where she was drugged & kidnapped. It was pretty pointless for the friend to even find the father to begin with.
When Rambo is preparing for the cartel arrival, he frees the horses, at the end during the credits there's a scene where a wounded Rambo gets on his horse & rides away.
One last thought... what was up with the tunnels? Why?

Re: Rambo: Last Blood (Grunberg, 2019) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

What a terrible movie. When has Rambo ever failed to rescue the captive prisoner of the story? Watching his innocent niece tortured, raped and then die sure was entertaining! As others have said, he doesn't even seem like the character. He probably has more dialogue in the first 15 minutes than all the previous films. We've come a long way from great past villains such as Brian Dennehy and Steven Berkoff. And of course it had to end with the absurdity of him ripping out the bad guy's heart and showing it to him while it was still beating! Such a pointless story that completely ruins the fantastic high note on which part IV ended.

Is it the longer cut or the U.S. theatrical cut? (The difference between the cuts is the longer cut opens with Rambo participating in a flood rescue, scenes which are completely missing from the U.S. theatrical cut)

Also does that kind of gross sex trafficking still exist? I mean haven’t those patrons heard of Pornhub?

Yes. There have been a lot of reported cases of people being kidnapped or attempted kidnapped and suspected of being related to sec trafficking rings in our state.

Just recently a mother had to fight a guy suspected of being part of such a ring from taking her daughter, who was 17, while they were shopping in a local Dollar General. The guy on camera literally grabbed the girl and was dragging her out the door when the mother caught him.

Re: Rambo: Last Blood (Grunberg, 2019) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

I enjoyed this movie more on 2nd viewing. The first was in the theatre and the movie was disappointing, especially compared to the surprisingly good 4th Rambo movie. But knowing what I was in for, watching the extended cut at home was a good action movie watching experience.

Is this the worst Rambo movie? Probably for most, although I personally do like it more than "Rambo III" (the ill-conceived rehash of "Rambo: First Blood Part II" set in '80s Afghanistan) so it's just 2nd worst for me. But the action scenes in it are done well and, in the action movie genre, that's key. It makes flaws with the rest of the movie a lot more forgivable for me.

So the only way to watch the longer cut is by having Amazon Prime? 101 minutes is a bit longer from the 89 minute running time so I'd like to see it.

It's on PRIME? First I've heard. I had read that the 101 minutes version only screened internationally.

If it's an exclusive, Stallone probably cut a deal with Amazon. I know Netflix cut a deal with QT for the Hateful Eight extended edition, so something similar there in terms of contracts.
