Re: Rambo: Last Blood (Grunberg, 2019) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread
Brainstorming to myself after watching the film, I thought it would've been cool to see a posse of sheriffs show up at the end somehow (having been built up earlier in the film) because as it is, it doesn't make much sense that nobody shows up when there are these explosions going off, even in rural Arizona. Looks like they could've very easily added that and rounded out the film a little bit based on the missing opener. As it is, Rambo does entirely too much talking for his character, but if he had a couple of sheriffs to play off of, that could've been avoided (similar to the mercenaries in Rambo).
Brokenthrowaway247 adds, “I saw this scene in Aus, best part of the movie. The police imply its not the first time Rambo has done this thing to help either. At the end I was waiting the entire time for the police and/or townsfolk to show up and help Rambo fight the cartel. Would have been a nice parallel to the first movie and redeemed the entire film.”

Just saw it and it goes hard af. The final battle, damn. That was like a slasher flick. Jason got nothing on Rambo!
Now I do agree his character felt a little off, but he has been on the farm around family for 10-11 years.

For those who saw the international version (I guess there's one or two of you?), did it ever clarify what kind of pills Rambo was scarfing down like tic tacs? Pain medication? Anti-psychotics?

I saw it and liked it a lot although not nearly as much as "Rambo" / "Rambo IV" / "John Rambo" which I also saw in the theaters when it was released. My main complaint is that it felt too short and hearing about the extra scene makes me think cutting that was a major mistake. It's a shame that will probably have to wait until its home release to finally see the complete film with that scene intact.
To get into spoilers, I would like to mention that one scene that I thought was handled very well was Gabrielle's death scene. After Rambo rescued her, I thought she would recuperate and be fine by the end of the movie. But the truck scene was well shot in showing to the audience her slowly slip away while Rambo still thought she would be okay. And when he realized she was gone, I thought Stallone handled that scene well without overdoing it (as he did for Mickey's death in "Rocky III"). And one reason the scene caught me by surprise is that I had always expected Rambo to succeed in a rescue mission, so the idea that he might fail never entered my mind.
Anyway, relative to the other Rambo movies, though, I'd rank it 4th, from best to weakest:
- First Blood
- Rambo (aka Rambo IV aka John Rambo)
- Rambo: First Blood, Part II
- Rambo: Last Blood
- Rambo III

Dear God, the Mickey death scene... Who directed Stallone there?
Oh.
I would rate the Rambos in the exact same order as you.

He's alive, and he didn't really like it. Your life can be complete now.

I personally like Stuckmann, but I've never posted one of his videos anywhere before today and I don't expect anyone else to care. It's just a review source that I tend to agree with more often than not, it's no different than any other reviewer, youtube or otherwise. You just find whatever you like. The only reason I posted this one today was because of your posts E Unit. I saw it when I logged into youtube this evening and thought of you.
I can't really stand Grace though.

I know this is off topic, but I also don't get what the big deal is for those who dislike Chris Stuckmann. He offers a pretty well thought out opinion and analysis on the movies he talks about, including Rambo. I think he does a good job producing his videos and even bothers to include B-roll, which most YouTubers can't do because of copyright reasons. I only recently discovered his videos about a year or so ago and I like them. I even enjoy his "Hilariocity" videos where he makes fun of really awful movies.
Just because you think he's "some random guy" from Ohio and not some professional film critic, it doesn't make his opinion and voice worthless. And I believe he said in one of his videos that he's now actually an acredited film critic in his state.
and he actually gave Rambo a C+, which is what most seem to think about it.

In trying to find out more about the cut scene in "Rambo: Last Blood", I accidentally found out about the existence of the extended version of "Rambo" (aka "John Rambo" aka "Rambo IV") that's about 12 minutes longer than the U.S. theatrical cut. So now I have another version of a different Rambo movie that I need to see.

I have the bluray. My favorite added scene is when Rambo blows up the boat of the Burmese pirates he hacks them up with his knife from the first three movies.

Saw this yesterday.
Most of the film is pretty standard but the over-the-top violence was hilarious.
