Nothing in stone, but according to a site (My Entertainment World) that gives updates on production start dates, they're saying mid-March 2018 for this. Going to be quite the busy schedule for Warner/DC with Shazam, Suicide Squad 2, Wonder Woman 2 and probably The Batman.

IDK, given it's a new director, and a talented one, and writer, they can turn it around especially since they have a long time to get the script right versus the 6 weeks Ayer had to write the first one. Also, helps going in with a vision rather than adjusting it in post production using a trailer company to edit it. If you watch the first Comic Con trailer, it was very dark but after BvS came out, they artificially brightened it up.

really didn't mind the first on 1st viewing. not sure what everyone's beef about it is (yeah, gave it 3.5 stars). i will view again, but i pretty much enjoyed it, i believe. it was pretty by the book and nothing real new, but it was a little more than decent...

The insiders told TheWrap that the current plan for the sequel is for the members of Suicide Squad to be tasked with tracking down a weapon of mass destruction. That weapon? Black Adam himself. The villain is best known in DC Comics as the main nemesis of superhero Shazam.
“The Rock” first hinted at what’s cooking in May, when he told Fandango, “We have a really cool surprise for Black Adam that I can’t reveal, in terms of where we will see Black Adam being introduced.”
“Suicide Squad 2” is scheduled for an October 2018 production start, and The Rock’s busy schedule during that time includes a potential fifth season of HBO’s “Ballers,” Disney’s “Jungle Cruise,” and his “Fast and Furious” spin-off with Jason Statham.
But “Suicide Squad 2” shouldn’t be too much of a scheduling issue, because Black Adam’s part shouldn’t take much time to shoot, the insiders said.

Which is why I give some slack to Ayer since he had only 6 weeks to write it. A lot of blame goes to Warner for the short time and messing with the tone after the backlash of BvS being too dark.

so why did he only have 6 weeks? Did the original script got thrown off, was he hired too late in the production and had to come up with stuff on the fly?

Not sure if there was an original script before as Ayer approached Warner about doing the movie. Seems like, and this was prior to the 'course correction' Warner was keen on getting another DC movie in 2016 perhaps and things could get fast tracked when you have somebody like Will Smith involved. Now, part of the blame that does go to Ayer is agreeing to that sort of timeline.
I'm sure today they wouldn't have proceeded, just look at the time they're taking with this sequel (of course, part of the delay is waiting for Smith's calendar to open up).
