More about the "actor" in question than the role they're playing.
It still a spoiler as it reveals that an actor is playing a new character, with a relevant Marvel history, that wasn’t announced yet

I just saw all this spoiler info reported on Access Hollywood. I already knew it, but it could be tough if you're trying to avoid the info.

So I may be better prepared watching Nomadland than reading a collected paperback of the title?

Sounds great.

I thought this one was starting to far away from the proven MCU formula. Still will probably make a lot of money because of the Marvel banner and people desperate for anything new.

This one's definitely getting the worst reviews for an MCU movie in a while, which is kind of surprising. Seeing it compared to Justice League a lot which is not a selling point in my book.

I thought Disney paid everyone off?

Mendelson is kind of a dipshit.

I'm still in and, to be honest, would appreciate a break from the usual Marvel story. One of the things I loved about WandaVision was how it did something different. Shang-chi was great but followed the usual formula, IMO. Eternals will probably fall into the middle.

Well, WandaVision was different AND it was extremely well liked and reviewed. No way Eternals falls into the middle.
Still will give the movie the benefit of the doubt, but it might just be the weakest of all the Marvel movies.

I meant middle of different and usual formula but, yet, I get what you're saying. Here's hoping it isn't that bad.

Re: Marvel's Eternals (2021, D: Zao)

As burnt out as I am on Marvel Studios -- after seeing all the films in theaters, Black Widow and Shang-Chi were both skipped and I really have no interest in watching either -- I actually had high hopes for this one. I love the more cosmic, off-the-scale Jack Kirby/Jim Starlin madness side of Marvel the most.

The reviews are disappointing. The common buzz I'm hearing is that Eternals is a fairly unique Marvel movie... up until the time it isn't and turns into a generic CGI slugfest.

Damn… I didn’t realize this was 2h 37mins. That's the 2nd longest MCU film behind Endgame.

If it's doing this bad with the critics I wonder how it will go down with audiences. Could possibly be Marvel's first bomb.

Nope.

Presale ticket numbers were outpacing Black Widow and Shang-Chi.

Black Widow was already their first bomb. Especially after they had to shell out for the stupid lawsuit.

It's hard to tell how the pandemic is affecting the grosses of these movies. That and Black Widow was also released on streaming the same week as in theaters. I didn't care for Black widow or Shang-Chi for that matter. The downturn could be from mainly from the pandemic or they have just run out of most of their top tier characters to feature in movies and are being forced to feature less popular characters in movies. Guardians of the Galaxy did well for an obscure brand, but that may have been more of a fluke than anything else. The Marvel movie are also becoming to predictable with jumpy camera battle scenes that rely on too much CGI and alien villain coming through a spacial wormhole trope. eventually the viewing public is going to grow tired of these movies if they don't try to do things a little different with each movie.

I don't think it's that complicated. The movie was not exciting, the character has no super powers to have seen the origin of, and she's dead in the current MCU timeline. Sometimes a movie is just not as good as others.

This looks great. I'm really not feeling the reviews. A lot of them are rotten seem to say, 'strong story and characters, adds new concepts to MCU, not a lot of polished action, unique MCU entry'.

That sounds great to me.

Considering it pulled $60m+ in streaming revenue opening weekend suggests it would have done better without it. Amazing it made $180m+ in spite of that (domestic)

There were still a lot of shut downs abroad when it came out and it was denied release in China, so it really is tough to tell on that one. (Its biggest foreign territory wound up being South Korea, Endgame's was China with $629m).

I wasn't looking forward to Black Widow for similar reasons but found it pretty enjoyable. Will check out Ten Rings eventually.

I think the issue with Eternals is it's introducing a dozen characters and is expected to do something with them. The Avengers had half a dozen and almost all of them were featured in a movie before their ensemble movie, so the introductions were out of the way, this sounds like a slog of introductions and backstories mixed in with a rushed plot to keep the universe going.
