Robocop
In an interview with Zeitgeist Entertainment Magazine, original Robocop screenwriter Ed Neumeier revealed he’s working on a sequel to the 1987 film that will ignore the events of Robocop 2, Robocop 3 and the 2014 remake.
There’s been a bunch of other RoboCop movies and there was recently a remake and I would say this would be kind of going back to the old RoboCop we all love and starting there and going forward. So it’s a continuation really of the first movie. In my mind. So it’s a little bit more of the old school thing.

That would be an acceptable use of my Movie Pass!

Will Weller be in it? Then it's not really a sequel to the original. Remake was bland. Do it right or stop making them.

There really is no story I can think of that would require making another Robocop 2. The third one, yea. As a matter of fact, they should just remake Robocop 3. this time they'll have a real budget instead of sinking ship from a studio going under.
Also, they failed at the PG remake. That doesn't give me much hope. Won't most people think Robocop 2 is a sequel to that one at this point????

I really have a soft spot for Robocop 2. Kid gangster with a lunchbox machine gun, psychotic drug addicted robot monster and everyone in town has somehow gotten even shittier. Good stuff
I'd also like a sequel to the reboot. I thought it was pretty good, all things considered.

So, the new Halloween is going to ignore all the sequels and now Robocop?
This the new trend?

The next Terminator that Cameron is producing is supposedly going to be the true third film and pick up after Judgement Day.
I kind of have mixed feelings on these sequels that ignore other sequels. In this case neither the second or third film are as good as the first but like others I like Robocop 2 for a guilty pleasure movie. I also surprisingly liked the reboot quite a bit. I don’t think it got a fair shot by most as everyone was too quick to judge it against the original and not take it on its own merits. It’s really not a bad film and I wouldn’t have minded a sequel.

I dont even think there is a need to ignore 2 and 3. The only thing really significant is Lewis died. I would love to see an out dated Murphy coming back years after #3.

I think the Lewis thing is a big thing but also how OCP changed.
I too loved 2 though my only complaint is they made the old man the villain as opposed to the first one where he had some scruples.

Hmm, what other franchise could possibly redo a sequel. We've got Halloween 2 and Terminator 3 coming. Possibly Robocop. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre series has already done it God knows how many times. The Return of the Living Dead is technically a sequel to Night.
If Anthony Perkins was alive you could bet they'd do a sequel to Psycho ignoring 2,3,4.
What about a new Exorcist 2 with Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn and Friedkin coming back.
Or how about a new Prequel trilogy with only 4,5,6 being canon.
I have a feeling this IS going to be a new trend.
