His Ninja movies are pretty much the best in the genre since its heyday in the 1980s.

Both Ninja movies were pretty good. They reminded me of 80s style Cannon action movies.

Re: The Scott Adkins appreciation thread

This trailer was released a month ago, but Adkins has a new WW2 action movie coming out on the 19th

It looks a lot like a WW2 version of Missing in Action.

If this gets a theatrical release near me, I might try to see it that way 1st.

Somehow I don't think this is based on a true story.

Allied prisoners of the Japanese did not stay in shape in a POW camp. They looked more like this:

Try doing Scott Adkins' moves on a bare subsistence diet.

Re: The Scott Adkins appreciation thread

The fact that this is directed by recurring Adkins co-star Louis Mandylor gives me pause. This is his third direct-to-wherever WWII movie. I saw the first one 3 DAYS IN MALAY when it was on Tubi mainly because of the uniformly bad reviews, and the reports of its factual inaccuracy were indeed correct. Similar comments pepper the reviews of last year’s OPERATION BLOODHUNT but that was apparently a vampire-werewolf movie so I suppose it gets more of a pass. This new one seems to have some decent production value and Adkins looks solid as always (if totally unbelievable, as Ash notes). In the interview Mandylor talks about trying to make the movie even longer, but really even 110 minutes seems a bit much for this kind of story.

Looks like Prisoner of War has no theatrical showings near me. One small theater in Glendale, which is like well over an hour away has 1 showing a day.

VOD it is. Looks like it's a $10 purchase.

The 1sr movie was okay. The 2nd movie is actually pretty good. Looking forward to the wrap up.

I really liked the first one and have been waiting for it to go on sale somewhere. I bought the second one for $5 when it was also on Netflix.

Re: The Scott Adkins appreciation thread

The recent Scott Adkins period movie "Prisoner of War" is now on Prime Video. I posted about it here last year. Going to watch it today. I wanted to see it, but was holding out until a SVOD provider got it rather than paying $10-12 for it on Fandango at home. Most of his movies are fun, definitely not worth owning.

I finished Prisoner of War yesterday. It was actually pretty good. Some good fighting sequences. It definitely felt like a Missing in Action type movie.

It was surprisingly long. Almost 2 hours. If you have Prime Video, it's worth a watch if you're an Adkins fan.

I just remembered that I did a review of NINJA (2009), with special emphasis on its New York-by-way-of-Bulgaria setting, on my blog a few years ago:
