The Scott Adkins appreciation thread

I didn't see any thread dedicated to talking about Adkins or his movies.

I know a few of you guys are fans.

Here's a few of my favorites recently from him:

Eliminators -- Some really good action and fight scenes. Ironically the movie takes place in London and he's playing an American even though he's British.

Accident Man. Awesome action and a badass fight sequence with Michael Jai White.

https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....cL._SX385_.jpg

Ninja II: Shadow of a Tear Some amazing martial arts fight sequences. Better than the 1st movie.

Savage Dog was decent. Liked that it was a period war movie and shot in Asia. Had some good hand to hand fight scenes.

I want to see The Debt Collector whenever it becomes available for rental. It looks entertaining, although it's definitely low budget:

I haven't seen Boyka Undisputed 4 yet. I know it's on Netflix.

The thing I do like about Adkins is that he's a huge opponent to movie piracy and gets mad when people pirate his movies. He's pretty straight forward saying that if people continue to pirate his movies, he and all his producing and writing partners can't make a living since he doesn't work on big studio movies. And the movies he wants to make like "Ninja III" can't be made because they're all independently financed.

Once upon a time Adkins would have made a great Terminator.

He's great in the Undisputed/Boyka movies. The Debt Collector (3/5) was alright, but I was a bit disappointed with Accident Man. I went in with high expectations and felt let down. I probably should rewatch.

Savage Dog (2/5) wasn't a very good movie, but I appreciated the old school hand to hand combat scenes with a distinct Hard Times (1975) flavor to it. Sometimes I get bored by hyper martial arts so this was at least refreshing.

Incoming (0.5/5) is probably one of his worst of new movies out recently. It wants to be a serious sci-fi thriller drama but it is dull and boring. It was like they were thinking "how can we make this better? Oh yeah, we got Scott Adkins don't we? He can fight, right? Let's throw in a few fights!"

Triple Threat looks fun so I'm looking forward to that one.

I love Adkins. He has the looks, charisma and the moves. I feel like he is always one movie away from a breakout. He was my pick for Batman when Affleck was cast. Hell he would make a good James Bond.

I don't know about the complete list but Eliminators the title is telling it would be a great movie.

Here's his training on Wolverine Origins -- he was the Weapon XI character at the end:

That speed is legendary.

Hm. I had never thought of him as being a candidate for Batman, but after picturing it I think it would really work. Too bad Hollywood seems intent on only letting an established star take the role.

Undisputed III: Redemption on repeat forever.

It was great to see him in Doctor Strange!

They should give him the role for a Daredevil movie.

Scott Adkins stars in AVENGEMENT... Coming to theatres, OnDemand & Digital May 24

While released on furlough from prison, a lowly criminal evades his guards and returns to his old haunts to take revenge on the people that made him a cold-hearted killer. It’s an epic, bloody battle to search for the soul he lost years ago on the streets of an unforgiving city.

This is from the same director of Triple Threat and a few other of Adkins' films.

There are a few reviews, currently at 100%: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/avengement

Adkins and Johnson have been posting about this on their social media accounts. I'll check it out.

I'll catch it, but that title screams direct-to-video action thriller.

Re: The Scott Adkins appreciation thread

I understand this guy has a cult following and that he's a terrific martial artist, but I cannot understand why he gets brought up every time there's a superhero role or something up for grabs. He is, essentially, a stuntman. Which is great and he's talented at that, but everything else about him is so incredibly flat (he's even very generically handsome). All of his films feel like demos for stunt parts in larger films and take themselves so seriously, despite their shallowness. And the idea that he could carry a studio franchise is... Well I'll just say I don't see it happening anytime soon.

I'll give those videos a watch, though.

^ Pshhhh

Anyway, it has been out for a bit, but everyone should check out Avengement. I believe its on Netflix. Just brutal action. I just started watching his web series, and so far, so good.

His YouTube series is awesome.

Love how many great guests he's able to get.

His guests are pretty damn solid. I liked the Dacascos and Stahelski ones.

While I don't think he's hero material, he could have easily been a baddie along the same lines as GSP or Grillo. He's in the latest Ip Man on Netflix.

PhantomStranger 09-01-20 08:44 PM

Re: The Scott Adkins appreciation thread

He would have been a major action star in the 80s or even 90s. Not ethnic enough for today's Hollywood and the general fading away of traditional male-led action films has hurt Adkins' career. Pretty good charisma for a "stuntman" and pulls off convincing martial arts stunts on screen better than anyone not working in Hong Kong.
