Has a movie made you cry for one reason or another?

I will admit I have cried because of the way a movie has made me feel. I bawled at only a handful of movies in my entire life. I think it was because of some emotional trigger in movie, for whatever reason, that has made me actually shed tears.

1. Casablanca (1942)
2. It’s A Wonderful Life (1946)
4. Easy Rider, I think (1969)
3. The original Star Wars Trilogy (1977-1983)
4. The Godfather (1972)
5. The Lion King (1994)
6. Titanic (1997)
7. Schindler's List (1993)
8. Love Actually (2003)
9. Marley & Me (2008)
10. Haichi: A Dog’s Tale (2009)
11. Brooklyn (2015)
12. Wonder (2017)
13. CODA (2021)

Do you happen to think heterosexual males typically don't cry or typically shouldn't cry or typically don't admit to crying? Is this in relation to another demographic? Why do you think that?

I cry plenty, and not just at movies.

I saw Titanic and cried so hard I passed out and fell into a coma. I woke up 3 months later stranded on an island I never been on.

Crazy movie experience!

I doubt there's anyone who hasn't at least gotten teary eyed at some movie. Movies are designed to generate an emotional response, whether it's laughter, fear, sadness, etc.

I do wonder about some of your choices though. I can't think of anything about the original Die Hard that would get someone crying, and I never felt misty-eyed at any of the original Star Wars Trilogy films.

Perhaps getting more specific about the scenes in those movies that made you cry would help.

For me, I cried at two points in Lilo and Stitch. One is startling early in the film, when Lilo gets upset about some kids teasing her about her makeshift doll, and she throws the doll down in disgust and walks away, only to come running back to pick up the doll and earnestly hug it. She wanted to hate the doll so much because she got made fun of for it, but she still loves it because it's all she has....

The other part is near the end of the movie when Stitch talks about his family.

Bridge to Terabithia

I was expecting a fantasy-type film and was surprised.

I get misty eyed from time to time, usually an emotional score will help with that.

One that immediately comes to mind was the first time I watched Field of Dreams after my Dad died.

in most of those choices it's the grandeur of what i just saw. simply awed me and i got emotional. SW it always happens when the end credit scroll comes on. it just triggers a response of the movie i just saw that was done so well and compelling to me. just hits that nerve...

Frequently during Frequency (2000). I’ll second Field of Dreams. A lot of father/son stuff gets me lately, with my dad dying just a little over three months ago.

Lion King
And not the scene everyone cries at. It was the opening sequence that got to me. It was the first time I realized the beauty of film . It was that day I saw movies as a work of art.

Cried like a baby (not literally) at the end of A.I. There are others. Anyone who thinks real men don't cry is an idiot.

One of the most frequent threads ever at DVDtalk.
Here are a dozen to choose from. Oldboy even posted in a couple (and probably more under a previous user name)

I'm sure we can find at least a half-dozen other ways to word it if we get real creative.

My son started crying at the end of Monster's Inc. - he was 3 or 4 at the time.

Pixar films always seem to be able to do this (see post above).

Re: Has a movie made you cry for one reason or another?

Thinking back to the first piece of filmed entertainment that moved me to tears, I just looked up "Lassie" on IMDB and determined that "The Odyssey, Part Three," the episode which ran on March 4, 1962, when I was eight, was it. Lassie had gotten locked in a truck and transported hundreds of miles away in the first episode of the three-parter and he finally returns home at the end of Part 3. I was surrounded by family, so I cried silently.

Anyone who claims to be a movie fan and does not allow a film to move them emotionally to tears is not a true movie fan.

If it's for this.. then the first time I saw the opening of The Lion King. It was amazingly beautiful. Hard not to get caught up in it introducing Simba to the world.

The Rise of the Planet of the Apes movie with James Franco I found emotionally devastating, so much I would never watch that movie again if you paid me. AI had a similar effect on me.
