In Mulholland Dr.

Spoiler:
I always find the Club Silencio scene emotional when Rebekah Del Rio sings Roy Orbisons "Crying" in Spanish. Gets me every time.

And also in Requiem for a Dream...

Spoiler:
When Sarah Goldfarb tells her son Harry what she has to live for.

And in The Elephant Man...

Spoiler:
When the group of drunks go into his room and make fun of him.

One movie that gets me every time is Gallipoli:
Spoiler:
Mel Gibson running as fast as he can to deliver the message that the trench soldiers don't have to go over the top, the whistle blows, Mel cries out in anguish, Mark Lee goes and goes and - freeze frame. Then Albinoni's Adagio comes in...

And I have to admit I'm a sucker for this scene in Sense and Sensibility:
Spoiler:
That bit where Emma Thompson loses her composure when Hugh Grant comes to talk to her.

Or how about the ending of Dark Victory with Bette Davis.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Spoiler:

Li Mu Bai is poisoned by a needle during an attack by the Jade Fox:

"Yu sits across from Li, whose pose is almost meditational,
eerily calm.

YU
Mu Bai, hold on. Give me some
hope...

LI
Shu Lien...

YU
Save your strength.

LI
My life is departing. I've only
one breath left.

YU
Use it to meditate. Free yourself
from this world as you have been
taught. Let your soul rise to
eternity with your last breath. Do
not waste it... for me.

LI
I've already wasted my whole life.
I want to tell you with my last
breath... I have always loved you.
I would rather be a ghost, drifting
by your side... as a condemned
soul... than enter heaven without
you. Because of your love... I
will never be a lonely spirit.

Yu cries.

She kisses him lightly. He closes his eyes."

It gets me every time.

Although I agree with Old Yeller, the winner, hands down, HAS to be the ending of Schindler's List. I've never seen people openly sobbing in the theater before or after that film.

In The Pianist:

Spoiler:
Where Brody's character is in the abandoned building, looking for food, where he suddenly turns around to see the German Officer there. Eventually he asks him to play the Piano as he says he was a Pianist. That whole scene where he plays the piano, I must say it was one of the most emotional scenes ever.

Seeing that this movie will soon be on DVD, I'd have to say.

The ending to Last American Virgin.

I totally agree. The scene that affected me the most, if I remember it correctly, is when one of the doomed troops writes a letter to his wife and seals it up with his wedding ring.

As soon as I saw this thread I was going to say the exact same thing.

Also, how about in Fellowship of the Ring when
Spoiler:
Gandalf falls while fighting the balrog
. That still just about gets me every time.

MAGNOLIA is chock full of 'em for me:

Spoiler:
When Donnie tells the braced bartender he'd be a good boyfriend.

When Rose tells Jimmy 'You deserve to die alone for what you've done' and Jimmy says, 'But I don't know what I've done.'

When Frank starts to break down on stage. He starts thinking out loud, a disjointed rush of memories as he tries to reconvince himself of his philosophy, then hollowly says, 'Turn to Chapter 23. 'How To Fake, Like You Are A Nice And Caring Person.'

When Phil is on the phone with the operator. 'See, this is the scene in the movie where you help me out.'

A regular three hankie for me.

I also found the very ending of THE ELEPHANT MAN emotional.
Spoiler:
That simple little scene of his laying down to bed, looking quite content. That was when I really felt the accumulation of everything that had gone on before.

The point is to leave the movie title outside of the spoiler, so that people know what movie is being spoiled.

Not like most people didn't already know that, but still.

I'm surprised it hasn't been said yet, but for me, the most emotional moment that always gets me is...

Spoiler:
the ending of Leon the Professional

Spoiler:
when Leon is shot and hands the grenade to Oldman..."this...is from...Mathilda..." followed by her walking away, the score at this point is too powerful

Gets me every damn time.

I personally thought Neeson was doing GREAT up until that scene, at which point he went too far overboard. Unless you're talking about the postscript scene, and if so, then I can agree with that.

How about To Kill a Mockingbird:
Spoiler:
Reverend Sykes: "Jean Louise. Jean Louise, stand up. Your father's passing."

My own Magnolia moment:
Spoiler:
Donnie: "I really do have love to give. I just don't know where to put it."

Or another dialogue line, this one from Gattaca:
Spoiler:
Vincent: "You want to know how I did it? This is how I did it, Anton: I never saved anything for the swim back."

C'mon daddy-o, it's gotta be West Side Story.
