So it's emulating Marvel. Box office, critical and audience success

But home video sales will disappoint.

I think it'll do great on home video. Girls will want it because it's Wonder Woman. Boys will want it because of Gal.

And be prepared for a billion WWs on Halloween.

Yeah, I'm not sure what logical reasoning the "home video sales will disappoint" statement is based on.

One lonely anecdote. My wife rarely wants to own a movie. She just goes with the flow with what I buy. As we were leaving the theater she told me "we HAVE to buy this one when it comes out." My daughters were fully on board with that statement.

It was a joke about Wonder Woman emulating a Marvel movie (comparing it to Captain America 1 and Thor). Marvel movies, generally, don't do well on home video while DC does (in spite of the terrible reviews).

Is this actually true?

According to this list, Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy both sold better on Blu-ray than any DCU title.

I had a few minor quibbles with this-I'd have liked them to lean more on the mythological stuff, a little more imagination in the Paradise Island too much Snyder-y slow-mo, another big CGI-fest finale-but on the whole I really liked it. There was a genuine earnestness to it in an age of constant wink-at-the-audience postmodernism, and Godot was a great secret weapon; strong, but subtle and vulnerable, and the quiet feminism of both her and the storyline give the film a sort of quiet honesty and strain of social commentary. Pine was pretty good too, and their central relationship genuinely felt sweet and believable instead of contrived. DC Finally hit one out of the park.

Girls have been doing Wonder Woman at Comic Cons for years.

Google Wonder Woman Cosplay Comic Con and you'll see what I mean:

I don't think anyone has suggested otherwise. But there will be a noticeable increase.

Yeah it's not like there were never Harley Quinn cosplayers but that certainly upticked post-Suicide Squad.

My daughter even went as Harley for Halloween. I wouldn't be surprised if she picked Wonder Woman this year.

Impressive...

WW dropped ONLY 30% in it's third week, have not seen that low of a 3rd week drop in a Comic Book SH movie ever...great word of mouth which is providing the movie incredible legs.
-$40 million this weekend...$58 Million last week

What's great is that domestic is keeping up with foreign. It's approaching $700 million.

Mentioned it in the Box Office thread, but it seems like it will likely pass the other DCEU movies domestically. Turns out an actually well put together movie has box office legs, go figure. Well deserved

My niece caught this a few days ago. She's a fan of comic book movies, but when she talked about WW, she used words like awesome, bad ass, cool. She was genuinely excited when talking about it.

Re: Wonder Woman (Jenkins, 2017) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Saw this with my daughter today (Father's Day trip), her second time to see it, my first. I went in skeptical but it grew on me and really kicked in after Diana left the island. (What a great line: "Who will I be if I stay?") I was really impressed with Gal Gadot's performance, esp. after she got to London. I like how we experience Europe and its various war-makers through her eyes, as she regards things with awe, wonder, curiosity, disgust, outrage, etc. It helps that the actress is both non-American and non-European, so it's not hard for her to play an outsider when confronted with these cultures. As an Israeli, she's used to regarding multiple opponents and multiple factions with apprehension, trying to determine who to trust or distrust and she brings that with her to the performance. She's a mix of babe-in-the-woods/fish-out-of-water with an ancient culture imbued with much wisdom and knowledge. I like how they have her speak multiple languages. (Could an American actress cast in the part have been able to pull that off?) So I got emotionally involved in it through Gadot's expressive performance and stayed with it the whole time. The whole cast was good and so was the direction. Probably the first of the 21st century superhero movies--DC or Marvel--to win me over so completely. I even rate this higher than PUNISHER: WAR ZONE, no small compliment.

Cosplayers put their hearts and money and time into their outfits. Gadot had zero input into the design or creation of her outfit.

I saw this today and enjoyed it. Didn't really care for the final battle ending, but the rest of the movie I really liked.

For most of the recent super hero movies, I've disliked the final battles that are just over saturated with CGI - Batman v Superman, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Wonder Woman, etc. I like the rest of the movie, just dislike the endings.

Or maybe Gadot's beauty made it easier to watch haha

Re: Wonder Woman (Jenkins, 2017) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

DC kills me sometimes...

Looks like Wonder Woman will be the highest grossing Domestic money maker.

The DVD/BR of the Animated WW was/is one of the top selling movie, but they said it they would NOT make a sequel because it "Under-Performed"...which is a lie.
-I would rate WW as the one of the best Animated Movie DC has done

DC missed the boat for a long time, now they see how awesome WW is...we will be seeing a ton more of her.
