Another thing to consider is that often different takes are used in the finished film versus the trailer as well. Not saying that's the case here, but it is possible.

I think it was way easier than it seems. The film had to be mostly edited, so all Ridley had to do was shoot the scenes he knew made it to the final cut. He didn't have to reshoot EVERYTHING.

Plummer looks great...looks like the footage will fit in pretty seamlessly. (unless the other actors look noticeably different)

Scott turns 80 today!

I'm in the same mindset. A perfect movie for MoviePass. But the only true be way to know if he pulled it off is to see Spacey's footage.

The big trick was CGI-ing out Plummer's mustache.

Spacey reportedly only spent about a week on the film, so I don't think the issue was ever about the amount of footage. I think what was trickier was the logistics of getting everyone back to the locations and sets of the original shoots. Locations can take months to coordinate and negotiate, and sets can be destroyed. Ridley didn't want to CGI in Plummer into the original scenes, so I don't know how much globe-hopping was involved (some of Plummer's scenes were shot in Rome, but there's also that desert scene in the original trailer that was surely not shot in Rome).

Reviews are starting to come out and they are strong, 10 out of 11 positive. I thought the whole drama surrounding the replacement of Spacey might have an effect on the film, but apparently not. It seems that all the reviews so far acknowledge that the film will probably be remembered more for the Spacey drama rather than the content of the film itself, which again is said to be very good.

Well, Plummer and Ridley were nominated for Golden Globes.

It hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet, but the release date was pushed back from the 22nd to Christmas Day, the 25th. This appears to have to do with marketing, and not due to Ridley Scott needing more time to finish the film:

The bigger question is if Plummer is a big enough draw to bring people in that might've been turned off by the shit that hit the fan.

Christopher Plummer is definitely not a big draw. The big names are Michelle Williams, Mark Wahlberg, and Ridley Scott.

I think the biggest draw will be people looking to see if Scott successfully pulled off switching actors in such a short time.

And Plummer was paid under a million dollars for his couple of days worth of shooting. It was like 400 -500k, I think.

The comments that Plummer's scene with Williams are the highlight of the movie is probably the compliment they were looking for.

I wonder how much of that is for quality acting/filmmaking and how much was for the insanely quick Spacey switcharoo.

The studio agreed: https://theplaylist.net/ridley-scott...oney-20171221/

Apparently Plummer was Scott's original pick but the studio overruled him and a bigger name was hired on

Seeing this Christmas morning. Looks like my theater is planning a huge rush with Last Jedi that my showing is at 8:40am.

The only upside to such an early showing is that what with TLJ being around 2 hours 45 minutes with previews it does not kill your whole day, and you get out of the theater right around lunch time. I admit that I am super curious to hear what fellow DVD talkers have to say after seeing the film. Other than the Saturday eve tickets for Jumanji my dad has purchased I have a holiday time crunch that means I will most likely only get to see one film in theaters and will have to wait to see TLJ over the New Years holiday.

I just watched both and likes Plummers delivery much better. Make no mistake, Plummer is like a 98% shoo in to win best supporting actor even if his performance is not as good as it is supposed to be.

This review by What The Flick really liked the movie. They say Plummer is great and is in the movie more than expected.

Ridley Scott hit it out of the park. Very good movie, the cast was terrific. I hope Michelle Williams gets a nomination.

I ended up not going to that early 8:40 am showing. I got drunk last night and processed my refund through ArcLight's website. I'll see it this week, though. Got a $50 GC from ArcLight for Christmas, so that helps.
