Not sure I follow. So you're saying Smith, Robie & Affleck were completely horrible?

Finally watched this last night. I was expecting the worst, but honestly it wasn't that bad. It wasn't great either though. I agree that Smith & Robie carried the flick. The rest of the squad just wasn't as developed so the audience had no reason to care. Getting some more Batfleck was a big . Decent enough for one viewing, but not a flick I'll ever revisit though.
The entire premise seems flawed though. In a world of superheroes, metahumans, & Batman, you risk civilization on a bunch of villains to save the day against a centuries old witch? On top of that risk them just breaking free anyway? That aside, "Martha" is no longer the lamest thing in the DCEU. Jared Leto's Joker holds that crown now. Holy shitballs this Joker was fucking terrible. They need to recast and reboot that shit ASAP before he taints any other DCEU flick. |

That was the main mistake with this movie. This needed to be a secret mission to take out someone the government didn't want or do some illegal theft for the government not fight another Doomsday and save the city. That's why the animated Suicide Squad film worked a lot better.

Don't forget they were assembled to take out Superman if he goes rogue. Talk about a flawed premise. But at least they had a guy who could climb any building.

The movie was an absolute mess and shows just how far DCEU has to go to catch up with Marvel. There is no way I will see SS2 in a theater at this point. |

And now Suicide Squad is an Oscar winner!

Watched this on a flight, wasn't boring but it was certainly cheesy and slight. Also the villain was one of the lamest I've seen this side of Catwoman.

Somehow I forgot SS was even nominated, and was surprised they won.

Re: Suicide Squad (Ayer, 2016) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread
Well, it had a one in three chance of winning, so it wasn't exactly a crowded category. I've never heard of A Man Called Ove, but it has a 92% on RT. Maybe they can lead with that for the marketing of the next movie. "The follow up to the Oscar winning original motion picture!"

Margot Robbie looked really hot in her makeup. Thus, winner, lol.

I hope this win doesn't encourage WB/DC that The Joker's look in this film was good. Really hoping if he's brought back that the design is retconned.

So the concept art in this video reveals a much more traditional looking Joker (purple suit with a light green dress shirt). Really not sure why they chose the shitty design that wound up in the film instead. Also as much as I like Affleck's Batman I have to admit at times the bulky suit does look pretty silly and I like the more streamlined concept look. Also it appears that Joker was working with the Enchantress or was the main villain pulling her strings.
Not sure how much better these changes would have made the film but I kind of wish that's what we would have gotten, mainly because I hate the version of Joker we got. |

I don't know that the blame for The Joker can be laid on Leto. The part was just badly written. The Joker didn't really have a lot to do in the movie. Aside from Harley's flashbacks (which were more about her) and Mistah J showing up in a handful of brief scenes trying to get Harley, there wasn't anything for him to do. There was really no chance to establish the Joker as much of anything other than a minor antagonist.
Just watched this, holy shit was this one hell of a badly written mess. Half star for Viola Davis (who's good in just about anything she's in) and half star for Jared Leto (who's IMO is not the disaster everyone makes him out to be). 1/5 |
