I’m hoping that if the new Halloween does well that maybe Jason and Freddy will be resurrected too. Seems like the only classic slasher character who’s still around is Chucky, but his last two movies have been direct to DVD/Blu-ray.

Don't forget Leatherface, they made another (shitty) TCM flick a couple years ago. There's a film called 'Never Hike Alone' that is actually better than 1/2 of the 'legit' Friday sequels. Check it out if you haven't already. (It's a free fan film.)

As for Freddy, I just can't see anyone other than Englund portraying him. I think he's got another Nightmare in him, physically I mean, should the opportunity arise.

I did forget about Leatherface. He’s had Texas Chainsaw 3D which most hated but is sort of a guilty pleasure for me and Leatherface which I haven’t seen. Actually come to think of it I think there’s been some Hellraiser/Pinhead films too. Most of the newer ones are crappy though and I’ve never been a big fan of that franchise.

I saw and liked Never Hike Alone (actually started a thread for it but it didn’t get a lot of replies). I agree that Freddy is hard to recast as so much of the character is Englund. Jackie Earle Haley wasn’t bad but the remake was crap.

Funny you mention "soft spot" for that second-to-most recent TCM. Same here. The 'kids' are horrid, vapid stereotypes (maybe the point?) but the guy cast as Leatherface did a hell of a decent job -- I was surprised! He should have been a bit beefier and slower on the trigger, but still in all. I really dug the whole family history/homestead/prejudicial redneck family angle and there are solid performances throughout.
(PS: Casting/production/industry folks? Give me a shout; I'm 6'6", 300+, pushing 50, a big TCM fan, and I've done suit acting/heavy prosthetics in the past! )

I had higher hopes for Jackie as Freddy. He was alright. I was thinking that due to his height, facial structure, and ability to pull off the 'bitter, sleazy villain with small man syndrome' he'd have come through a bit better. He mainly just growled and made pedophiliac comments.

I really wish someone like Eli Roth would reboot Friday the 13th. It's a franchise that could still work today if you had people in charge that knew what they were doing.

Unfortunately you have certain pupils that fight over rights to a franchise they really give 2-shits about.

Re: To Hell and Back: The Kane Hodder Story

Just watched this. Overall a pretty enjoyable and interesting watch. Kane seems like a cool, down to earth kind of guy who’s humble yet tough. Some aspects I felt could have been gone into a bit further but I realize that there’s only so much time to devote to every story when you’ve got a little under two hours to tell your story. I’ll probably watch the deleted scenes later today or sometime soon. Overall glad I picked up the Blu-ray.

That ruined it for me as far as the movie was concerned because of no Kane Hodder.

That and also what happened to the TV series?

If Wolf Creek could work as a tv series ,I couldn't see why not Friday the 13th tv series(not the original one).

He was pretty depressed about not getting the role. Sounds like it was quite a low point in his career/life. Still don’t understand why they didn’t use him as he is Jason to so many (though I’ll be honest my favorite version is Ted White from The Final Chapter. It’s too bad because if he wanted to he could probably play Jason again but I don’t think Englund would play Freddy again (I don’t think he wants to plus he’s probably too old for it now). We’ll probably never get a Freddy vs. Jason sequel anyways.

Re: To Hell and Back: The Kane Hodder Story

I gave it another watch last week just because it was so awesome. I've dabbled a little into the deleted stuff, but not all. And have yet to watch the included extra DVD
