Re: 2016 Oscar Nominations

Just as much business being nominated as Stallone who has been playing the same role for 3 decades.

FOUR decades of work (1976-2015=40 years) spanning FIVE calendar decades:

1970s - Rocky, Rocky II
1980s - Rocky III, Rocky IV
1990s - Rocky V
2000s - Rocky Balboa

Re: 2016 Oscar Nominations

I feel sorry for any black actors that do give an Oscar worthy performance in the next couple of years. When they're nominated all they'll hear is that they only got it as an affirmative action vote. Thanks, Jada.

Maybe Jada's hubby didn't get nominated because his performance was as lifeless as a sack of drowned kittens.

Don't worry, black actors rarely give Oscar worthy performances anyway so it shouldn't be much of an issue.

Yup, even bad actors in foreign language films are more worthy of Oscar nominations. Life truly is beautiful.

Laurence Fishburne was really good in THE HATEFUL EIGHT.

Oscar worthy for sure. How do you think Chris Tucker will fare as host of the Oscars? Seems like we haven't seen much of him since he did that "Deep Cover" movie with Goldnuts.

Re: 2016 Oscar Nominations

AMC is doing their Best Picture Showcase again.

Feb 20:
Bridge of Spies
Room
Mad Max
The Big Short

Feb 27:
Brooklyn
Spotlight
The Martian
The Revenant

Not sure of the order they will be playing or if they will do a marathon of all 8 movies on one day. Looking at my go-to AMC listing the cost, per day, is $35 and start time is 10am. I would imagine it's close to the same at each location. I was hoping Room and The Revenant were playing on the same day. As it stands looks like Feb 20th for me.

Re: 2016 Oscar Nominations

Thanks for the link. I lose at the internet today because the AMC site I was on didn't even have a link to the showcase. I can only use the excuse that I am hungry and tired So that link answers my questions

Re: 2016 Oscar Nominations

All this talk about race when there is the more obvious sexism about the Oscars. They separate the women awards from the men awards even though they're both doing the same job.

Re: 2016 Oscar Nominations

DiCaprio I think skipped the 1998 Oscars when Titanic was up for everything so you could not say he is a Oscar whore.

I will say Do the Right Thing and Malcolm X were overlooked by the Oscars and maybe if they came out in the 2000's they might have won I assume.

He skipped it and wasn't nominated. That wasn't seen as a coincidence to many people at the time.

He skipped it because he was pissed off that he wasn't nominated. When you are the lead actor and your movie is nominated for 14(!) Oscars and is the overwhelming favourite to win Best Picture & Director, you are expected to show up to the ceremony, personal nomination or not.

Re: 2016 Oscar Nominations

I just wish someone would really hit the nail on the head. When it is said that the Oscars are too white, they are wrong. Individuals are not discriminated against because they are people of color. They are discriminated against because they are Gentiles.

Re: 2016 Oscar Nominations

25th Hour was one of the best films of the decade and hardly anyone ever talks about it.

Did anybody expect otherwise? You can't defy your wife.
