It doesn't surprise me too much, it was a slightly stilted stage play and it never lets you forget it.

No nomination for Ridley Scott means George Miller will probably get a win.

Yeah but Spotlight and Straight Outta Compton as original screenplays? I guess they're within the submission guidelines, but that seems strange. Even Bridge of Spies is based on real events. :lol:

I haven't seen any of the films yet. Looking forward to the 2016 AMC Best Picture Showcase. :)

I'm not surprised that The Hateful Eight didn't get much. Reading about it, it seems to have been less well received than Django Unchained or Inglorious Basterds. I'm surprised Sicario didn't get nominated for best picture.

Spotlight I get because it's about the writing of articles, not an adaptation of those articles. Straight Outta Compton wasn't a particularly strong screenplay imho, but it's also legally based on research and not a book or biography.

Disagree whole heartedly. Though Brie Larson definitely deserved her nom.

Ok, so we have a couple people on here who think Mad Max is outstanding. Was the damn thing THAT good?

I still haven't seen it but did DVR its first showing on cable the other night.

Shocked at how many nominations it got.

On another note, I am thrilled to see Room get a bunch of the big nominations. It was fantastic. So happy for Brie Larson and the director. :)

When Tarantino told an interviewer recently that he hoped one day they would call the Best Original Screenplay Oscar the "Quentin", I knew he screwed himself over with hubris.

More surprised by the Best Director snub for Sir Ridley. Thought this might have been his year.

IMO, no. I'm not saying it's bad by any means. But Best Picture? Best Director? No.

Damn, Yeah that certainly doesn't help. I know he's been saying repeatedly that he's among only two other people to win twice (including Woody Allen), so that might also be part of it.

I know there's a lot of defenders of Hateful Eight here, but it was by far his weakest screenplay imho. The dialog wasn't strong, the plot was about as weak as can be, there was no character depth, etc; but there were some pretty entertaining scenes in it.

That doesn't surprise me, Ant-man's effects were primarily full CG sequences (the bathtub and brief case being brutally obvious about that). Though the giant Thomas the Tank Engine was well done.

Good to know, sounded interesting, didn't really like Act of Killing.
