Lol, that was pretty good. Stallone took his most prized role and handed it to a young black director - for his talent. If anything, that should be celebrated, he did exactly what is not happening enough in Hollywood. I'm in the camp that it's unfair to hold the academy up as the problem when the root issue is just not having enough good films/roles for black filmmakers.

He finally speaks. Will Smith says Oscars controversy reflects racism in United States. Are these the same racists who have employed him these past 25 years? And paid him handsomely too I might add.

Re: 2016 Oscar Nominations
Funny thing is while there are certainly MANY more white people in movies, I think there has been a big trend to cast more black actors in movies, often when it does not even make great sense (like FF4). People seem to forget that they are still a very large minority in the US. Only 13% of Americans are African American. This is political correctness taken to an extreme.
Not to say that racism is dead in America. At lunch I sat by some Asian Americans that were seriously racist. Not only was she going to a college with "too many white people", they were terrified that she would bring a white boyfriend home but a black person. They went on and on about it.
Brooklyn will not win, but by far my favorite and best picture I have seen this year.

I'm kinda surprised nobody started a Screen Actors Guild awards thread. It took place last night.
They went overboard in "making up" for the Oscars.
Fuck. Idris Elba won twice for two different roles, Queen Latifah won for her role & Udo Azuba (or whatever the fuck her name is). Viola Davis won as well.
Most of these were in the 1st hour, I think. This was so obviously a stunt. They're good actors, but shit, this was bad.
And this post is coming from someone who normally wants & roots for the black actors to win. But this was ridiculous.

When was the voting for the SAG awards? When did they publish the nominee list? Could be a coincidence.

Edit: looking at the other nominees, I take this back. Elba and Latifah were the best for their categories on TV, yikes.

The real biggest crime of the SAG win's was Downtime Abbey for ensemble . Basically American actors said here is an award just for being adorable and amusing us anglophiles who think you are cute in your old timey costumes. In England that show doesn't win awards cause they see it as nothing for the Soapy Melodrama it is.

You would probably have to double or triple the amount of blacks in leading roles to get to that 13%. Outside of the Comedy Genre basically the breakdown for leading roles is probaly 75% white guys 15% white female and 10% other. Not sure why a black guy getting like the 6th billed role in an action movie is OMG affirmative action but like someone behind the scenes running Hollywood keeps trying to make Ryan Reynolds a thing before another woman or person of colour even has a chance to fail once is totally meriotocracy.

What an ignorant post. That show was a huge ratings and critical success in the U.K. And it even won the British version of the Emmy's (National Television Awards) three times for most popular drama. And take a look at the other nominations and awards the old timey costumes soapy melodrama has earned, in general.

No it has not won the British version of the Emmy's it's won their version of the People's choice Awards aka the same thing Empire and NSCI shows win. The British Version of the Emmy's are the Bafta Tv Awards where it was only once nominated for Best Series the 1st season. It hasn't even recieved any Major noms there since 2012.

He admits they won meaningless "people's choice" type awards. Face it, Downtown at Arby's is a shit show.
Meanwhile I stand by my comment from earlier in the year that this is the best film I've seen all year. I said so back in April and nothing came along that was better. http://forum.dvdtalk.com/other-talk/...l#post12449544
It's got the best fight scene I've ever seen, it's utterly surreal, it's political, it says more about class and the economy and the state of modern America than one hundred Oscar bait melodramas.

No, he didn't. He said "In England that show doesn't win awards". And I shared a link showing that is has. He just corrected me when I said the National Television Awards were the equivalent of our Emmys. And you need to face it that many people like that shit show.

Does ABC have a lifetime contract to televise the Oscars?
I wish the Academy would open up the bidding and let NBC or FOX do the show.

That is the only show I watch on ABC once a year and a reminder that ABC still exists.
I wish another network got a chance to broadcast the Grammys since CBS probably has a lifetime deal to televise it.

Harvey Weinstein Breaks Academy Rules By Endorsing Leonardo DiCaprio For The Oscar
Uh oh!
Harvey Weinstein broke the rules when he endorsed The Revenant star Leonardo DiCaprio for an Academy Award at last night's amfAR New York Gala.
But why is that so bad? Well Weinstein is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) which means he should be unbiased -- but clearly that ain't happening.
"As an Academy member, you're not supposed to endorse anyone up for an Academy Award, but I have to say Leo DiCaprio is so amazing in The Revenant," Weinstein told the crowd. "His devotion and the way he rolls it all up into something beautiful is amazing. I've never worked with anyone who's so wonderful and so classy."
DiCaprio, who shelled out $95,000 for a 10-day trip to Mongolia at the amfAR Gala, has been having a killer awards season -- winning both the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor.
We think Leo's a shoe-in for the Oscar (his first ever!) for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role but he'll have to go head-to-head with Matt Damon, Michael Fassbender, Bryan Cranston and Eddie Redmayne.

Well, if he loses, they could say this might've backfired on him. There's still time to vote. I always wondered if votes pour in at the last minute or if most are pretty much done by now.

Re: 2016 Oscar Nominations
Kate Winslet has been endorsing him too and she's an Academy member as well. Actors and Hollywood power players are always hosting Academy screenings, so I'm not sure why that article is calling out Harvey. I remember Academy member Reese Witherspoon loudly and publicly singing the praises of Naomi Watts a few years ago for The Impossible.
