So, I'm watching the movie and yea... the last act is fucking bizarre. But not enough to warrant all the buzz (yet). And I think to myself... how bad could this get to justify all the headlines? What are they going to do...
And then they
I know some people have said the less you know going into to this one the better. But I would advise reading some interviews with Aronosky and Lawrence first about the allegory of it all. By the end of the movie, the allegory is apparent, but I think that knowing more about it going in would help identify what is going on more. That is something that could improve on second viewing, but I don't know how many will want to watch this again.
Everyone was good in the movie and it was well made.

Kyle Smith, former NY Post film critic and now at National Review, is up in arms over this:

I wonder how someone who's seen it and liked it would respond to his assertions.

Alright here we go. Let the serious spoilers commence!!
Spoiler:
For those who aren't sure what to expect, but REALLY want a warning about the violence. Kyle Smith says:
But I don’t see any seriousness of purpose, just a Biblically-infused version of torture porn.
Spoiler:
Oh, also (not violence, but story stuff)

Is it confirmed anywhere? No offense to you if you're sure. I just didn't see the resemblance. And I'd be surprised if it was, to be honest.

Thanks, Dan. Much appreciated. I'd like to see it, but I'll wait till I'm in a position where I can turn it off and on and stop it if I feel I need to.
BLACK SWAN is the only Aronofsky film I've yet seen. I wasn't crazy about it.
A.O. Scott in the New York Times thinks it's a comedy. He calls it "a hoot."

Check out the comments also.

Here's the last paragraph, no spoilers:
It’s not clear that his gifts match his ambitions. He wants to be Kubrick, but maybe what we need is a new Blake Edwards. At a time when film comedy is mostly a verbal and psychical affair — the domain of writers and clowns — there is a dearth of funny directors with Mr. Aronofsky’s sophisticated chops. If he didn’t take himself so seriously, he could be a great comic filmmaker. But maybe “Mother!” proves that he already is.

The thing too about this movie, the truly bizzare material is only really at the last 30-35 minutes or so.

I just watched the trailer for the first time. Reminded me of GET OUT, only instead of a young black man surrounded by creepy white liberals, it's a young millennial woman surrounded by creepy baby boomers. With a touch of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.

Just some fair warning, I MAY be wrong about one of the warnings about violence (maybe someone else can confirm?)

I didn't like this at all. I was hoping to, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. I saw a lot of biblical allegory. But, I'm not a fan of this particular type of film. I was bored, even in the parts I shouldn't have been. I felt like I was watching someone's bad dream for two hours.

Saw this on Thursday. The religious allegory was clearly there and the film played a bit better if you were aware of it.
The issue for me was that it should not be required for audience to go in with that (specific) knowledge to enjoy the film. Quite a few people booed loudly once the film ended at the screening I attended.

Haha Mother! got an F cinemascore, meaning mainstream audiences (or those polled) fucking HATED it. Other films to get this score were Killing Them Softly, Bug, The Devil Inside, the Box, and Wolf Creek

Can't speak for the others, but IMO Killing Them Softly and Bug were excellent.

This also bombed, so it'll be gone from screens in no time.
IT is a juggernaut.
