Why is it so hard to believe he and Chewie eventually went back to smuggling? I'd have called bullshit if Han was now shown be some kind of diplomat or emissary. He's a scruffy nerfherder at heart.Originally Posted by d2cheer

Han had a complete character arc in the OT. Since he didn't die in Jedi, they pretty much had to reset him back to before he completed his arc (smuggler, single again w/ Chewie, estranged from Leia for no obvious reason, etc) in order for him to have another arch, just so he could die and earn his death. Yeah, I think that's stupid too, but it's screenwriting 101, and it's so ingrained, that they can't help but pull shit like that.Originally Posted by d2cheer

I'll watch this again this week when I pick up the blu-ray.
I had some problems with the story when I watched it in the theater, and I want to see if they're still there after a couple more viewings.

So you think the story changed between the theatrical release and the BD Originally Posted by Josh-da-man

The more I think about it, the less I care for the "repetitive" criticism. We are dealing with t̶e̶r̶r̶o̶r̶i̶s̶t̶s̶ freedom fighters, they are in ongoing military actions and engagements with a larger force. History doesn't really repeat itself, but it often rhymes. And in storytelling terms, we need to see these types of plots so we can compare to characters who came before and how they faced those actions.
Last night on Blu was my third viewing, and it seems to smooth out a little better every time. We don't need every little detail of everything that happened in the past 30 years, and I dare say we'll get some answers in the 8 and 9 anyways.
More importantly, nobody complained about not liking sand, nicknames were organically derived and not one character said "meesa".

I thought it was fantastic. Yeah it hit on a lot of the same notes as the original. But it worked.
I did have a problem with Rey being able to out-duel Kylo the first time she picked up a light saber though. And also her ability to use Jedi mind tricks to control storm troopers. Luke only gained these abilities after extensive training and he according to Lucas is the most powerful Jedi that has ever been or that ever will be.

Kylo took a bowcaster to the gut, so she was fighting a wounded warrior.Originally Posted by Thrush

Not so sure about her using the Force her for the first time. She likely had some training she blocked out/doesn't remember from her childhood. Heck, her Force flashbacks upon touching the saber included Obi-Wan talking to her ("Rey … these are your first steps") so there's more going on than we know yet.

Yeah, that's one criticism I don't agree with. There is obviously more to Rey's past than we know. Granted it doesn't all make sense after just one movie but I have faith it will be explained in the next movie or two.Originally Posted by GuessWho

She was also clearly shown defending herself with her staff on Jakku when the two thugs tried to take BB-8.

Kylo was an apprentice too... not like he was a master swordsman. =)

Liked BB-8
I felt like the 2 main villains were the weak characters of the movie.Kylo Ren was a piss-weak whiny loser.
So in his first scene he walks up and looks pretty bad ass.
But when Ren's helmet came off ...
... I couldn't stop laughing.
I really couldn't take him serious after that. And the temper tantrums.
Snoke?What dumbass picked that name?lol
Captain phasma was good, but would have like to see her get more screen time.

^ Congrats on missing the point of the character.

Thought movie was ok but I felt like I was watching a Spaceballs movie. Didn't like R2D2 "losing will to go on". Hated Leia. She was talking like she had a stroke.
