Today's the last day for THE FORCE AWAKENS at my local Cinemark. Anyone else losing it tonight as well? Still in the top 10 every weekend...surprised it's getting yanked.

Theaters often have commitments for new films, so there's probably not a lot of leeway for them to keep it.

I'd image that what they can and can't show, and for how long, is probably pretty strictly contracted legally.

From what I can find, films are typically contracted for 4-8 week runs, with holdover clauses to establish when a film's run can be extended. From what I can find, a studio may require a theater to keep running a film if it's still making a certain minimum amount per screen. I'm not sure if there's anything in the contract that says a theater must stop screening a film; typically the studio has nothing to lose from a movie continuing to screen well past its initial run, since they simply get a percentage of the ticket revenue and only has to let the theater keep renting the film print/digital copy.

The two longest extended runs in recent history that I can recall are Titanic, which ran 41 weeks, and My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which ran nearly a year (51.4 weeks)

I thought the same exact thing the first time I saw Rey in the trailer with the mask on, exploring the ship remains.

We don't know if it will be feature length. The ad says "full-length", which simply means not a 5-minute EPK. It could be an hour, it could be three hours. Who knows.

Per this release it will be a "feature documentary". Also: retailer exclusive extras! We all loved that with ST Into Darkness, right?

I normally don't buy multiple versions of a movie's Blu-ray but I might make an exception for this.

There is one Star Wars product I am willing to pay for. I will pay any price within reason for it. Any others? I'm not chomping at the bit. I'm not excited enough about this movie to be jumping for multiple releases. But this the kind of fanbase which will, so it makes sense.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Abrams, 2015) — The Reviews Thread — SPOILERS

Supposed list of the seven deleted scenes included on the BD:

◾ Finn And The Villager
◾ Jakku Message
◾ X-wings Prepare For Lightspeed
◾ Kylo Searches The Falcon
◾ Snow Speeder Chase
◾ Finn Will Be Fine

They clearly aren't including every deleted scene. Chewie tearing off Unkar Plutt's arm isn't listed here. There was also some stuff with Leia's emissary being sent to Hosnian Prime... and the bits with Maz Kanata using the Force to fend off stormtroopers and handing the lightsaber to Leia at the resistance base.

Unless I am reading it wrong, Target is the only one with exclusive "content." Wal-Mart has BB-8 packaging and some cards while Best Buy has a SteelBook. With Star Trek, there were special features exclusive to various stores.

Nor Luke's severed hand gripping the lightsaber as it drifts through space.

I seem to recall a number of shots from the trailers that weren't in the completed movie. Makes me think there's quite a bit of stuff that got left on the cutting room floor.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Abrams, 2015) — The Reviews Thread — SPOILERS

I'm sure we'll see even more deleted scenes on the re-release for Christmas, and then BRAND NEW deleted scenes in the eventual VII-IX trilogy release.

And I'll buy all of them because I'm a sucker. A sucker, I tells ya!

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Abrams, 2015) — The Reviews Thread — SPOILERS

I'm totally happy with the deleted scenes especially the feature documentary. I'll buy it where it's cheapest, and by that I mean, I'll pick it up the first place I find it.

I would order it online, but what if I want to watch it the day it comes out?

It's not 1998. Amazon delivers media to you the day it come out.

Not Target, which is where I'll probably be ordering from. They're still in 1998 when it comes to shipping.

Best Buy is in 1998 too. The last steelbook blu-ray that I pre-ordered from them months ahead of time arrived one week after the release date.

I'm in the Chicago suburbs and there's a large Asian population, so there's a lot of markets that cater to those groups.

You might have to travel a bit or order online.

Regarding the full length documentary, if we get something even half as good as the one on the original Phantom Menace DVD, then it will be worth it.
