Honestly, I'm one of the few that's looking forward to it. I'm gonna go to the biggest and loudest theater to watch it. Fuck it. I miss Proyas.
As far as my favorite Proyas films go - in order:
The Crow
Dark City
Garage Days
I, Robot
Knowing
Basically in chronological order.

And Gods of Egypt looks like someone wanted to make a God of War movie with Egyptian Gods.

Re: Gods of Egypt (2016, Proyas) S: Butler, Coster-Waldau
- It seems as though a decent chunk of the Gods of Egypt budget went toward Butler's skin bronzer -- money that would have been better spent on the cheap-looking special effects, which appear to be culled from Ghostbusters II.
- "Gods of Egypt" eventually becomes so laughably terrible that you forget about the lack of diversity.
- Gods of Egypt is the most epic sun-and-sand disaster since Elizabeth Taylor almost broke 20th Century-Fox with her 1963 film Cleopatra.
- Call it "Clash of the Whitans," and call it a folly that doesn't have the energy or delirium to qualify as entertaining crap. It's just crap.
- Yeah, #egyptsowhite. But the good news is Chadwick Boseman steals the picture. Not that there's much to steal.

Damn, Black Panther couldn't even seal the deal. I actually had no idea he was in it.

Just got back and the craft brew helped but it was a ball. Am I biased, though? Absolutely. The thing is that Gods of Egypt knows exactly what it wants to be and relishes in it. The FX are not that bad and the action, production design, costumes, and actors were all fine in it. In fact, you could tell everyone was having a good time, which is why it comes through in the finished product.
You know I'll be getting the Blu-ray. There were probably 10 people total at my showing and it was in one of the smaller screens, which is a shame.
In terms of "spirit" and fun factor I felt like I was watching the first 3 Indiana Jones films along with Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and The Rocketeer. Granted, the script was not as great as the direction but I liked it nonetheless.

Honestly...how buzzed were you when writing that? To even mention Indiana Jones in the same thought...

I thought World of Warcraft was gonna be bomb of the year.
This may just edge it out, though.

I like films similar to this on occasion but this looks pretty bad. I won't see it theatrically but maybe I'll give it a watch when it hits one of the premium channels.

I watch the trailer for this, and I wonder why Gerard Butler says no to appearing in the 300 sequel but yes to crap like this.

Just curious but you mention 3D Blu-ray a lot. You haven't invested any money in it, have you?
And I would rather watch a great movie like Jaws on one of Alan Smithee's VHS tapes sitting on a folding canvas chair, than a crap movie in 3D Atmos on leather reclining seats.

I saw a free showing of this Wednesday in 3D and thought the 3D was pretty good- no gimmicks but nice to look at. It was at what I consider one of the worst theaters in town and I haven't paid to go there in years, but aside from the picture being a bit dark the 3D was excellent with NO crosstalk or ghosting, which I can't say the same of about my TV, and they actually had a proper 2.35 screen instead of that top-masked or letterboxed crap newer theaters have. Movie itself was OK, the full theater seemed really into it and applauded at the end but most of them bolted for the exits the instant the credits hit the screen, even though they'd been staring at a blank screen for over an hour before the thing started.
With 3D still getting bad press recently, we need as many satisfying 3D movies as possible to get more people into it! There was some marketing person there getting people's thoughts on the movie outside, I told her that the studio shouldn't even HAVE any 2D showings of this and she said "Oh, I can't stand 3D, it hurts my eyes!"
I have both Rise of an Empire and Jupiter Ascending on 3D Blu but haven't watched them yet; saw the trailer for Jupiter in 3D at a theater and thought it looked good, I'm prepared for any potential cheesiness based on comments about it.
